Girls On the Run…The Finish Line is Just the Beginning

gor8

I’m always looking for fun ways to keep my girls active.  Last year my 9-year-old participated in an amazing program called Girls On the Run, a countrywide program that begins with girls in 3rd grade.  It was one of the most fun activities my daughter has been a part of.  It takes Girl Power to a whole new level!

Boston Museum of Science

Boston Museum of Science mytravelingkids.com

If you are in Boston and looking for something that all ages will enjoy, the Boston Museum of Science is a safe bet.  It is one of our favorite places and there is so much to do that we never do the entire thing in one day. Our typical visit includes exploring the different wings of the museum, seeing a few shows, and having lunch in the cafeteria.  There are so many different things to do that no two visits are ever the same.  Here are a few of our favorite things to do:

Cozido…Eating a Meal Cooked in a Hot Spring

aazores

Sao Miguel, Azores is one of the most beautiful, friendliest islands we’ve ever been to.  It is located 950 miles from mainland Portugal but it is a completely different world.  The island has a gorgeous coastline, stunning flowers, and perhaps the best seafood I’ve ever tasted. It is the largest island of the Azores but can be viewed in a day or two. It was here we got to experience the best cozido we’ve ever had!

One of the coolest meals we’ve ever experienced was in Sao Miguel. The island has lots of hot springs so they have created an interesting way to cook your meals.  They take a pot and fill it with delicious, local ingredients, cover it, and place it directly in the ground.  There the food slowly cooks by volcanic steam and after 5-6 hours you get a perfectly cooked meal created by Mother Nature.  It is like an underground crock pot!

Learning to Ski at 40

ski

This morning I jumped from an airplane, landed on the top of a snowcapped mountain, and skied down a black diamond trail.  Well…ok…not exactly.  I actually just went up the Magic Carpet and came back down a few times but I can tell you it was just as scary!  I am 40 years old (Ugh…that can’t be right) and I am just learning how to ski.

Why the Creator of American Girl Dolls Should Be President

American Girl Doll Store mytravelingkids.com

If anyone deserves to be the leader of this country, it should be the creator of American Girl Dolls because that person is an absolute genius! If you have young girls I’m sure you know all about these dolls because they are a cult for young girls in the US. I am not quite sure what makes this doll so special but they seem to have a magical power over the female gender that convinces you a doll needs a multitude of outfits and accessories. And if you think the company is just about the dolls, you haven’t hit the tip of the iceberg.

New Year’s Blog: Top 10 Resolutions

new-year-resolution

I’ve got to say that as a new blogger, this last week has been the most intimidating yet.  It seems that at this time of year many bloggers choose to show you their best work of the year…and all I can say is WOW!  I’ve loved reading about the top 10 destinations people traveled to (Many that I cannot even pronounce) or the best adventures people have taken (The pictures alone have left me speechless)! There are so many amazing bloggers out there and I’ve been soaking it all in to learn from the best.  This isn’t something you can have as a major in college so your education comes from those around you that have been doing it for years.

One common post I’ve been reading is that this is the time of year to reassess your goals for your blog.  It is time to look at what is working and what needs to change.  One way many people are doing that is through Blog New Year’s Resolutions.  So here we go…my top 10 for 2016.
