Boston Museum of Science

If you are in Boston and looking for something that all ages will enjoy, the Boston Museum of Science is a safe bet.  It is one of our favorite places and there is so much to do that we never do the entire thing in one day. Our typical visit includes exploring the different wings of the museum, seeing a few shows, and having lunch in the cafeteria.  There are so many different things to do that no two visits are ever the same.  Here are a few of our favorite things to do:

4D Theater: A 4D movie at the museum is more of an experience than just a film.  The movies are about 15 minutes long and filled with unexpected thrills for your senses.  We watched the Polar Express movie in December and the girls smiled through the whole thing.  Be prepared for anything: snow falling, things creeping under your feet, smells emerging in the air, wind gusting, and many more things that will keep you wondering what’s next.

Imax Theater:  The museum plays some great nature shows.  Right now they have several cool shows: Dinosaurs, Jerusalem, Wild Africa, and Humpback Whales.

Live animal shows:  These shows are both educational as well as entertaining for everyone.  The last show we saw featured a screech owl, groundhog, and alligator.

Lightning show:  In a large auditorium you can watch a very interesting show about lightning and you can view some pretty amazing displays of light! Be prepared for loud noises.

Most of all we love all the hands-on activities.  The exhibits include: dinosaurs, energy, hall of human life, New England habitats, the moon…the list goes on and on.

  • Parking:  There is a large garage attached to the museum but if it is a weekend, summer, or a school holiday, you will want to get there early or it will be full.  There is another parking garage at the Galleria Mall, which is about 2 blocks away.

  1. I love going to the science Museum! I have not been to the Boston science Museum, will have to check that out if we ever get over to the East side of the United States.

  2. Lots of interesting ideas, science for little kids can be an adventure. Why not do it at Boston Museum where each assess to historic digs and artifact at finger tips that kids can touch and learn from. Fun!

I love the hands on activities for kids. It’s really nice to make them interested in science with these. Thanks for sharing!

It was so cool. When the train was skidding across the lake (Polar Express) you got water splashing in your face, wind blowing, and bubbles coming down looking like snow.

  4. Cool! The Boston Museum of Science is one place I would love to take the grandkids to. It is fun and educational! I am sure they’d be asking to come back over and over again. We’ll include this in our “must see” places for 2016.
