Going Away Alone for the First Time!

solo

Don’t get me wrong…my husband and kids are the BEST people to travel with and I’m fortunate that we get to do it all the time but I can’t help being a teeny bit jealous when friends tell me they are traveling alone on business trips.  Ok…some days I’m so jealous I may actually turn a slight shade of green.  The realistic part of my brain knows they will miss their family but the dreamy part pictures them sitting out by the pool with a glass of wine and a good book.  That may be pushing it but I’m pretty sure no one is yelling from their bathroom, “There’s no more toilet paper and I’ve just pooped!”

So I’m finally going to try out this whole go-away-for-a-night-all-by-myself thing and see what it’s all about.  Just me…no kiddos…and no hubby.

I feel guilty just thinking about having an entire night away.  We’re talking supreme mom-guilt at its best! But my kids will be having fun with my husband and be too busy with sports and their friends that I’m sure they will find some way to endure a whole night away from me.  Actually, by the way I’ve been nagging them lately I bet they’ll help me pack my bags!

So what’s my plan? I’m going to keep it simple and just go away overnight somewhere nice. This isn’t Eat, Pray, Love…not trying to find the meaning of life. I’d be happy with an uninterrupted bubble bath.  Besides a phone call home to wish my family goodnight, I’m going to completely disconnect.  No schedule and no electronics.  I’m going to just focus on me, myself, and I.

What questions are running through my head?

Will I like solo travel or will I be completely lonely?

Will I get bored?

Will I feel safe?

What will I do while I’m there?

Will it feel awkward to be alone?

Will eating alone be weird?

I can’t wait to share next week how it went.  I’d LOVE any tips from solo travelers on what works and what doesn’t. Feel free to comment below or send me a message!
