The 13th Annual Portsmouth Fairy House Tour

The 13th Annual Portsmouth Fairy House Festival

September 23 & 24, 2017

11-3 pm Both Days

Rain or Shine

If you are in New England and looking for something fun to do this weekend, the Fairy House Festival in Portsmouth, New Hampshire has always been a favorite of ours.  On this 13th anniversary, more than 200 fairy houses built by creative professionals, community members, and students will be on display on the grounds of Strawbery Banke, the Governor John Langdon House, and in Prescott Park.

When my girls were younger it was a tradition to go each year since they were a bit obsessed with fairies.  They would wear their best wings to the festival.

As they got older, they went to see the amazing houses built by local artists. The houses are a work of art and everyone is so talented. Each year it would trigger their creativity and they would build some houses themselves when we got home.

I always love to see how beautiful the gardens are during this time of year.

HOW TO BUY TICKETS: Tickets are available online or at the entrance.  We’ve always bought ahead of time to avoid the lines.

Tips:

-Expect a crowd… each year between 6,000 and 8,000 adults and children attended the Portsmouth Fairy House Tour.  However, since the festival is so spread out, it won’t feel like a lot of people are there.

-Do not miss the entertainment…

“Fairy Houses–the Ballet!” will be performed both days on the Prescott Park Arts Festival Stage by Southern New Hampshire Dance Theater @ 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 & 2:30

“Shakespeare’s Fairies” will be performed both days by the NH Theatre Project Youth Repertory Company in the Langdon grove @ 11:45, 12:30, 1:15 and 2:00

-There is also face painting and many activities for children.

-Lots of kiddos like to dress up for the festivals.  There are many wings running through the park.

-Our favorite fairy house author, Tracy Kane, is always on hand both days to greet fairy fans and sign books.  My girls have all their books!

-Bring a lunch and enjoy the park or purchase food from a vender at the park.
