Bermuda

Bermuda is a gorgeous island and an ideal location from Boston and NY.  Quaint downtown areas and white sandy beaches make it a lovely family vacation destination.  This trip was a Mother’s Day gift and we loved soaking up the sun! Here is our itinerary for a week in Bermuda with kids:

Where do you fly in?

The best place to fly in is L. F. Wade International Airport

DAY 1

I always spend the first full day enjoying my hotel and spending time in the sun and sand with my family.  Enjoy the pool and the beach and soak up all the sunshine!

DAY 2

Start your day at the Bermuda Aquarium, Natural History Museum, and Zoo (Flats Village) You’ll find over 200 species of fish and marine animals as well as over 300 types of birds, reptiles, and mammals.  The history museum offers a great lesson in the resourcefulness of an island that has survived despite obstacles such as having no fresh water.

Lunch: Rustico for some pizza (Flats Village)

Afternoon in Hamilton City.  Go to Hamilton Fort and explore. The view of Hamilton harbor is incredible and the kids will love playing on the cannons.  Shop on Front Street and have a cocktail on a rooftop bar.

Bermuda Maritime Museum

Dinner:  Pickled Onion (Hamilton)

DAY 3

Take the ferry from St. George to Sandy’s Parish.  Got to the Royal Naval Dockyards and walk around.  (Hours vary depending on the season.  Click here to plan your day.)  Make sure to visit the Bermuda Maritime Museum.

Lunch: Frog & Onion pub (in the Dockyard)

Go to Dolphin Quest and do a dolphin experience.

Head back to your hotel and spend some time on the beach.

Eat dinner at your hotel or somewhere close to it.

DAY 4

Rent a Boston Whaler from Blue Hole Watersports and explore Castle Harbor.  Have lunch on an island that’s all your own and then get back on the water.  This was the best thing we did in Bermuda and my kids’ fondest memory of the island.

Castle Harbor in Bermuda

Big sea turtles swam beside our boat and the kids loved pretending we were on a deserted island.

Dinner:  Stop at a local market and bring some food back to your hotel.  Eat it by the pool and then enjoy a night swim.

DAY 5

Start your day getting an unforgettable massage in a cave at Grotto Bay Resort.  It’s unlike anything you’ll ever experience.  You are alone in a cave with your masseuse listening to water drip off the stalagmites.  Out of all the massages I’ve ever had, it is definitely #1.  (Click here for my full review of the massage, including a video.)

After your massage, grab your family and swim in the cave on the property.

Some Extra Tips about Bermuda

It is not in the Caribbean, although you will feel like it is.

You can not rent a car in Bermuda.  There are plenty of easy methods of transportation like buses, taxis, and ferries.

I would definitely not recommend using a scooter when you have kids with you.  (Personally, I wouldn’t even rent one without kids!)

There is no shortage of amazing pink-sand beaches.  Research which ones would be best for your family.

There are plenty of places to snorkel right off beaches.  Bring your own snorkel gear.

Check the weather! It is north of the Caribbean, so it gets pretty cold during winter months.

Many restaurants have dress codes, so men should pack collared shirts and slacks and women should pack dresses, skirts, and dress slacks.

The national drink is the Dark n’ Stormy.  Give it a try!!
