Liberty Hotel, Boston…Don’t Bail Me Out

Liberty Hotel... Don't Bail Me Out! Boston www.mytravelingkids.com

Who would have guessed that prison could be so romantic?  If you stay at only one hotel in Boston it has to be The Liberty Hotel.  It is such a unique experience with spacious rooms and 5 restaurants/bars.  This hotel stands where the Charles Street Jail once stood and they have played on that to give you a taste of Boston’s history.

The hotel has 298 beautiful modern rooms, with comfortable beds and wall to ceiling windows.  (No jail cells here!) We left the kiddos at home and celebrated our 15th anniversary with a night out alone.  We did see kids at the hotel and I commented at dinner that the kids would have loved eating by these jail cells.  We stayed in a Luxury Corner King room that had 2 walls of windows with a view of the Prudential and a view of the old prison walls.  The personal touches made a nice impression on us, from the complimentary glass of prosecco at check-in to the prompt room service of wine and cheese.

We had dinner at Clink, which still has original jail cells separating the dining tables.  There was no prison food here…just seasonal food that uses local ingredients.  You can enjoy appetizers such as raw oysters or himachi with mango salsa and dinners of swordfish, lamb pappardelle, or black pasta with scallops.

After dinner, enjoy some cocktails at Alibi, which appropriately was once the “drunk tank” of the jail.  Its dark, brick cell walls and jail bars set the mood as you look around at the portraits on the wall of famous celebrities’ mugshots with their “alibis” for why they were arrested.  We sat right next to sweet Lindsay Lohan…our cellmate for the night!

Thanks Odete! I loved seeing all your pictures from your vacation! I wish we had stayed a whole week in the Azores. You did so much! It’s now on my list to go back and stay longer!

My husband loved it too. He loved the architecture! In the hallways there are boards that tell all about the history of the jail/hotel and there’s a tv in the lobby that runs a short documentary about the history as well.

What an awesome theme! I’ve never stayed in a hotel like this before. I love how they remodeled everything! It looks so beautiful, especially the restaurant! Love it!

Meals were amazing! Not to mention that there is a bar in the lobby and at night the entire lobby turns into a bar. The best part was the Catwalk. It is an actual catwalk used by guards and if you are a guest of the hotel you can go up there and sit, have cocktails and appetizers, and watch the crowd in the lobby below.

It’s great. As soon as you get to the front door you know it’s going to be a cool experience!

  2. This looks like fun! I love Boston. It’s a great walking city with something to see and do around every corner. I’ll look into staying here next time I’m there. Was the food at the Clink as exceptional as the atmosphere?

Food was amazing! We started with Hamachi sushi and for dinner I had swordfish and my husband had the pappardelle with lamb ragu. If you like cocktails you need to try the French Kiss!

  3. Wow this looks really awesome! I love the restaurant, I’d love to visit and stay at a hotel like this but eating in a restaurant like that looks awesome

Dinner by the cells is really cool. They keep they lights pretty dim and it’s a great experience.
