ST. ERMIN’S HOTEL
This hotel was one of the most elegant hotels we’ve stayed at but it still managed to have a comfortable feel for families. The lobby has a cascading staircase made of white marble and huge crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling. It is a Marriott hotel so if you have points you can put them towards your room. The staff is fabulous and the concierge helped us with transportation, dinner reservations, and walking directions.
The location of the hotel cannot be beat. It is within walking distance to Buckingham Palace, St. James Park, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Scotland Yard, and the subway.
On one floor of the hotel there a small garden with 3 custom built bee hives that are homes to over 300,000 Buckfast bees. They are free to come and go from the hive and you can view their activity from behind a glass wall. The hotel uses the honey in their breakfast buffet, and it’s neat for kids to try it knowing they saw the hive it came from.
I would suggest trying the breakfast buffet while you’re there but I have to admit it is quite pricy. (21 pounds), but since we are Marriot gold members breakfast is included. The breakfast buffet had a large selection of a typical English breakfast. It included fruit, cereals, yogurts, eggs, bacon, sausage, cold cuts, pastries, and an assortment of breads. My youngest daughter’s birthday was on the day we were leaving and when we told our waiter he presented her with the sweetest birthday surprise at the end of the meal while having the staff sing Happy Birthday to her. It was a lovely touch that started out her birthday perfectly.
