Bunratty Castle Hotel
The Bunratty Castle Hotel is a wonderful place to stay after flying in to Shannon Airport since it is only fifteen minutes away. It’s a great introduction to driving on the left side of the road without overwhelming you. Bunratty is a quaint Irish town with colorful buildings and kind locals. Since I can’t sleep on a plane (ugh…even if it’s overnight) I was thrilled that a room was available for us so early in the morning. We were all in beds, asleep, by 7:00 am. A few hours of sleep were all we needed before going out to explore our first taste of Irish culture.
Our first impression was the hotel was lovely from the outside. Ivy drapes over the entrance, inviting you to come in. Inside, the hotel has a classy, European vibe but it is very welcoming to children. The lobby area, as well as the sitting room, is beautifully decorated with cool tones and intricate crown molding. It was a nice spot to relax as we waited for our room to finish being made up.
The lobby also has a lovely staircase that adds charm.
Our room was a Deluxe Family Room. It had two queen size beds and was a nice size. Although the rooms are bit older, they provide all the modern amenities you could need. Our room even had two American outlets, which was great for charging our electronics without having to use an adapter. All of the rooms are tastefully decorated using traditional Irish fabrics and warm comfortable color schemes to create that home away feeling. It reminded me of staying in a relative’s house. We had a pretty view of cows and horses lounging in the green grass of the field next to the hotel.
Angsana Spa: I wish I had more time to spend at this hotel because I would have loved to experience a few hours at the Angsana Spa. Their spa menu looked so relaxing with treatments like the Dream Massage that is created specially for tired and worn out bodies. This would be a perfect cure for jetlag!
There are several dining options at the Bunratty Castle Hotel.
Kathleen’s Bar is a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy a coffee or bite to eat throughout the day. In the evening they offer a variety of cocktail choices, delightful wines by the glass and a superb bar food menu for those who prefer an informal dining experience.
Fibber McGees Steakhouse looked like a great spot to have dinner after a day of exploring. They offer delicious Irish cuisine coupled with the very finest local produce and dishes, that change daily for you to choose from. Unfortunately, we did not get the chance to dine here since we ate at the castle for their Medieval Banquet.
The Library: Breakfast is served in the Library and it consists of bacon, sausage, eggs, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and cold cuts. They also offer an afternoon tea daily with a wide selection of sandwiches, cakes, and pastry.
