Warning…after having a spa treatment at Natura Cave Spa, it will ruin all future spa treatments as this may be the most memorable spa experience you’ll ever have! Located at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort in Bermuda, the spa takes advantage of the famous caves of Bermuda and allows you to enjoy them as your sanctuary throughout your treatment. It is like being in heaven! Let me walk you through my morning!
We saw the entrance of the spa and it immediately peaked our interest. It is an inconspicuous locked door that is accessible from the outside of the resort. Beside the door, in beautifully manicured gardens, is a bench where you wait until your appointment time.
You can’t help but wonder what will be behind that door. You would figure it would be a series of dry walled rooms with typical massage tables and facilities, but you will NEVER imagine what is waiting for you behind that door!
My masseuse, Nyoman, walked out and introduced himself. his calm personality immediately put me at ease. Let me just say…I usually do not feel comfortable with a male masseuse, but I felt comfortable throughout the entire massage. When he led us in the cave my jaw literally dropped. We were standing in a dimly lit cave with lights leading me down a path. Above us the stalagmites were dripping and the water of the underground pools reflected the flickering of candles.
We walked over to some comfy couches to fill out some forms.
Finally, it was time to get started. We were led to our massage area which were on platforms with massage tables perched under white canopies.
At first, we were a little surprised that the two of us were in the same area, but we quickly forgot the other person was there since we were so relaxed. All you could hear was the soothing spa music and the dripping of water from the stalagmites. Occasionally, you’ll want to open your eyes and peek at the rustic surroundings. It’s hard to believe this entire cave was unaltered, but rather made by nature.
I experienced the Natura Spa Medley. It allowed me to sample a variety of treatments like cleansing, exfoliation, and massage. Although it is a full-body experience, the main focal point is your back. It was truly a relaxing and healing experience, especially when Nyoman used hot stones to massage the tension out of my back.
After our massage, we walked over to the entrance of Cathedral Cave, also located on the property. We climbed down a series of stone steps,
and this is what we saw!
We went for a long swim in the crystal-clear water inside this majestic cave…another thing to check off the Bucket List! Although it looks shallow, it reaches up to 30 feet in some spots!
Tips for a perfect day at the Natura Cave Spa
Not all treatments are done in the cave. Some are done in discrete corners on the pink sand beach, nestled in a pergola in a small lagoon, or in the nail salon. You may want to ask before you book.
