A Perfect Day in Freeport, Maine

Our two days in Freeport, Maine were jam-packed with fun experiences, and that was just a sample of what the town has to offer.  Here are a few of my favorite memories:

CAFÉ AZURE: We had the best meal at Café Azure and we were so appreciative that they came in on their night off to have us experience the restaurant.  I wish I could share the enticing aroma that greeted us when we walked through the doors.  The restaurant has a classy, yet welcoming ambiance.  The menu looked incredible (Take a peek at it HERE)  but we were in for a special treat…a 5-course meal designed by the chef, and it did not disappoint.

We started our night with a tasty glass of champagne while we munched on some appetizers… garlic and herb frites and chickpea fritters with a honey aioli.

Next, we enjoyed a  mescolare salad with baby spinach, caramelized pistachios, gorgonzola, and strawberries.

Next, we enjoyed a zuppa di pesce, made with local ingredients like Maine countneck clams, pei mussels, and pollock.

Our main course was beef tenderloin balsamico that had filet mignon, fresh spinach, and parmesan risotto. (I asked to omit the risotto…sorry carbs…and they gladly replaced it with brussel sprouts.

Finally, for dessert we had ricotta donut holes.  They were so decadent that I had to try one…twist my arm why don’t you!

A warm thank you to Café Azure for opening your restaurant to some hungry travel writers.  It was my favorite meal in Maine and I can’t wait to bring my family the next time we’re in Freeport.  As always,  all opinions and experiences are 100% of MyTravelingKids.com.

LL Bean Archery Discovery Course:

One activity I never pictured myself doing is archery! This class showed us the basic skills and techniques needed to shoot a bow.  After meeting our instructor, we learned some basic safety instructions, told about the target area, and then she quickly identified if we were left or right eye dominant.

After some instructions and demonstrations, it was our turn to shoot our recurve bow.

I was surprised at how fun it was! Ok…so I didn’t get my arrow anywhere near my target, but I still laughed a ton and had a fun time.  A few more lessons and I’ll be Robinhood!

Tips:

Minimum age is 8 to take the course.  If you are 14 and under you need to be with a parent.

Cost is only $25

Take some time to explore LL Bean.  It is open 24 hours a day…they don’t even have locks on the doors! There are aquariums, ponds, and lots of wild animals…ok…these are stuffed…but still cool to look at.

Register in advance for this course.

Thank you to LL Bean for trusting us crazy ladies with a bow and arrow.  We had so much fun channeling our inner Robinhood.  I think this would be the perfect activity for a girls’ weekend!  As always, all experiences and opinions are 100% of MyTravelingKids.com.

Brown Goldsmiths

A hidden gem that must be visited is Brown Goldsmiths.  We were given a champagne tour of this beautiful shop and learned all about the skill behind making a piece of jewelry.

I never knew how much work goes into making jewelry.  It really is a piece of art that is a creative talent. As we toured the production area, we saw every step of the process from creating the design

To developing a mold.  I love that they use traditional methods of creating a wax mold as well as a 3-D printer.  The amount of craftsmanship that is used in every piece was so impressive.

I loved to see the amount of care that’s put in each piece.

Every piece is given careful attention to details.

If you are in Freeport, pop in and take a peek at some of the unique pieces of jewelry in this store!

Thank you so much to Brown Goldsmith for letting us learn all about the art of jewelry design and creation.  I will never look at a piece of jewelry again without appreciating the work that goes into creating it.  As always, all opinions and experiences are 100% of MyTravelingKids.com.
