Billings Farm & Museum

Billings Farm & Museum

Woodstock, Vermont

Vermont is rich in farming heritage and Billings Farm & Museum is the perfect place to learn all about it. Take a peek at my afternoon…

Museum

My first stop was the museum. There were so many recreations of life in rural Vermont. Some of my favorite were:

Machine thatching

Butter making

Milking

A grocery store

Maple sugaring

Ice cutting

In this one section I felt like I was in a doll house as the displays loom 2 floors above you.

Time for some animals…

Next, I went outside to meet some of the cows in the field.

Seriously…I wanted to take this guy home with me!!

Then I went into the barn to see the milking cows.

The chickens were busy in their coop.

Then I went out to the pasture to see the sheep.

The farm is so peaceful and is the perfect place to walk around and enjoy the view.

 Something Sweet

Since it was 90 degrees on the day I visited, you didn’t have to ask me twice to enjoy some ice cream from the Dairy Bar.  I ordered a maple cream soft serve cone, sat on a bench, and enjoyed my view of the farm.  It was the perfect way to relax.

Go for a Walk

There is a gentle, self-guided path through the farm fields.  It is about 3/4 of a mile.

Watch the Video

Make sure to watch the film A Place in the Land, while you’re there.

Check out the Museum Shop

The shop has Vermont gifts, books, farm toys, maple products, Billings Farm cheese and crackers to have a picnic.
