OVERVIEW: The town of Obidos is one of the most amazing towns I’ve ever visited and this house fit in perfectly with the medieval feel. It is one of the most unique places I’ve ever stayed and it is my girls’ favorite house they’ve ever vacationed in. The house is tucked in a quiet corner of the town and the best part is it abuts the actual town wall. Behind it is an olive grove so there is plenty of privacy. All the houses in town are whitewashed buildings with blue and yellow stripes.
The house has 2 bedrooms in the main house as well as 2 bathrooms. Each bedroom has hand-made wrought-iron chandeliers and medieval sconces. My girls felt like princesses in these rooms.
The 3rd bedroom is absolutely amazing. It is located across the courtyard and has it’s own small bathroom. The wall of the bedroom is the actual stone wall of the town. That was so cool. The bed is a canopy and was very comfortable.
The kitchen in this home made me actually want to cook! You feel like you’re in the kitchen of a medieval castle… although you have to be your own servants. Even though it has an ancient feel, there is still modern amenities like a dishwasher, microwave, grill, and refrigerated. There is even a washer/dryer. The cabinets were made from a local carpenter.
The best part about the kitchen is the wine cellar attached to it. There were many bottles of Portuguese wine and each one was labeled with a very low price. If you choose to drink a bottle you simply put the empty bottle back and place the money underneath it. Very convenient and we often would enjoy a bottle in our courtyard after a long day of exploring.
The upstairs bathroom was my favorite in the house. It was huge and had an enormous Jacuzzi tub surrounded by a mural of Portuguese tile. As you sit in the tub you look out at a stained glass wall. We thought the sink was broken until we realized that it empties by tilting the basin. That actually made my girls want to brush their teeth!
The living room, with it’s velvet sofa and antique chairs was a nice cool place to sit since it has large shutters that keep the room dark and at a nice temperature. There is a liquor cabinet that has after dinner drinks.
The dining area is unique because it has an actual water well inside.
There is a long table for eating and tons of windows so it is very bright.
The courtyard was a great plus because the girls could play outside and since there is a locked gate we didn’t have to worry about their safety. There is a table outside as well as a fireplace.
Graca, the owner was so kind and answered all my questions in a prompt manner. The property can be found on FlipKey at https://www.flipkey.com/obidos-vacation-rentals/p295218/
