The Picasso Museum, which opened in 1963, is another must-see attraction while in Barcelona. The museum shows the deep connection Picasso had to the city, and you will learn all about what made Picasso one of the most famous artist in history. Let me tell you all about it…
Where is this fabulous building located?
Getting to the museum is a delight, because you will weave through small dark alleyways in a gorgeous section of Barcelona. The building itself is a work of art, and it fits in well with the Gothic architecture of the city.
All about museum tickets…
The Picasso Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Barcelona, so I would suggest buying tickets online before you go. They like to keep crowds to a minimum, so they only allow a certain number of people in at a time. As with most attractions, the tickets are timed and you will need to arrive during your window or you will not be allowed to enter.
Ticket costs…
Collection 12 €
Collection & Temporary exhibitions 14 €
The museum is free-of-charge on Thursday afternoons from 6.00pm to 9.30pm and the first Sunday of each month, from 9am to 7pm.
Audio guide?
I would absolutely get the audio guide since it is like getting a private tour of the museum. It describes 51 works in the collection and included background of Picasso’s life and what changed him as an artist. It is available in 10 languages and only costs 5 €, so it is worth it. If you’re traveling with kids, they have a wonderful audio guide that is made especially for them. It will bring the museum to life for kids!
How the museum is organized
The Picasso Museum in Barcelona has 4,252 works that make up the permanent collection, so it the content is always changing. Although I thought I knew what Picasso’s paintings were like, I had no idea they had changed so much from his earlier work. The museum is arranged in chronological order, so you can see the progression of his art.
Will I still like it if I’m not a huge fan of Picasso?
Absolutely! The history of his life and the impact he made on the world of art; will make you appreciate his talent. Â Make sure you bring your camera and be sure to take some videos.

Need an idea for dinner after the show? I’ve got a great one!!!
Head to the restaurant where Picasso would hang out!
In 1899, at age 17, Picasso began to frequent 4 Gats and made his first exhibition in the main hall. He also made the poster that was used as the cover of the menu of the house.
The appetizers were to die for and we had an amazing paella.
There was live music, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere and authentic cuisine.
