The Nonantum Resort is one of the most beautiful resorts in Maine and I can’t say enough about how attentive and kind the staff is. Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend, a relaxing getaway, or a fun-filled family adventure, this is the resort to look at. It is located in the quaint seaside village of Kennebunkport, Maine and it resides on the banks of the Kennebunk River. The location is perfect for exploring the town and there are ample restaurants, shops, and art galleries nearby. (Not to mention some pretty amazing ice cream shops.)
The family-owned resort offers 110 rooms in two buildings. We had the pleasure of staying in the Carriage House Inn. It is actually the section of the resort that opened in 1884, in the home of sea captain Henry Heckman. This section of the resort has so much charm and it is fun to explore all it’s beautiful architecture. Make sure you ride their hand-operated elevator while you’re there.
The Portside Lodge is the more modern building of the two. The rooms on the first and second floors have their own balconies or patios. It also offers some amazing views.
Off the front porch was my daughters’ favorite part of the resort…the Fairy Garden! My girls are pretty obsessed with fairy houses right now and we’ve collected lots of material to make our own this summer. The resort’s garden gave us some great ideas.
OUR ROOM
Our family enjoyed our stay in a two room suite that contained a queen size bed in one room and twin beds in the other. We had a lovely view of the Kennebunk River. We immediately felt welcomed when we entered the rooms, since the nautical theme set a relaxing atmosphere and made us feel at home. Each room had a television, and the suite also had Wi-Fi, air conditioning, an iron, ironing board, and a blow dryer. There was a station in the room that had a Keurig and a nice selection of coffee and tea. We appreciated the printout left in our room that detailed what was going on in town during our stay, the nightly specials at the restaurant, and a list of live entertainment at the resort.

POOL
We had a relaxing afternoon by the pool. There were plenty of chairs, towels, and umbrellas available. The pool area had two large bathrooms where you could change into bathing suits if you have not checked into your room yet. The pool had staff members that brought cocktails, waters, and mocktails to your chairs. The pool is open daily from 7:30-10:00.
FAMILY ACTIVITIES PROGRAM
During summer the resort offers a wonderful family activity program. While we were there the schedule included:
8:00-10:00 Let’s Get Creative Kids!
8:00-9:00 Yoga
9:00-11:00 Lawn Games
12:00-1:00 Face Painting
11:00, 11:30, 3:30, 4:00 Crabbing
4:00-5:00 Follow Me Kayaking
5:30-7:30 Princess/Pirate Party
7:30 Family Movie Night
My girls had an amazing time crabbing with Cooper. He taught them so much about crabbing and encouraged them to have fun while doing it. In fact, they’ve been sharing with everyone how you can tell a female crab from a male crab. Cooper was so patient and kind to my girls and made them feel like a pro. He is one of the many staff members that went out of their way to make our stay memorable.
LATITUDES RESTAURANT
After crabbing we decided to have lunch before getting in some pool time. Latitudes had just what we were looking for. My girls had some yummy sliders and we had the panini special. It was delicious and the view from the restaurant was so pretty.
HECKMAN’S PUB
My mother-in-law took the girls into town for a while so I decided to have some “Me Time.” I got a nice glass of cabernet from Heckman’s Pub and brought it out to the rocking chairs on the front porch to read my book. It was so peaceful that I could have stayed there for hours. You can dine in the pub for a casual meal or just have some drinks.
95 OCEAN
We had a lovely dinner at the resort, with a beautiful view. Our servers were so attentive and our meals were delicious. I love when you can have a nice meal right at your resort after swimming and playing all day. The restaurant offered fresh seafood, locally-sourced ingredients, and herbs from their own gardens. I had the Sesame Wasabi Tuna and it was cooked perfectly. They even offer a children’s menu.
