Captain’s Bounty on the Beach
Rockport, MA
If you’re dreaming of a quintessential New England coastal getaway, look no further than Rockport, Massachusetts. Nestled directly on Front Beach, Captain’s Bounty on the Beach offers an idyllic retreat with stunning ocean views and a charming small-town atmosphere.
With one daughter at camp, one working, and a husband traveling for work, it was the perfect time to go on a little solo getaway. Beach, shopping, and a beautiful hotel…what else could I need? Captain’s Bounty on the Beach was the perfect place to call home for the night.
Location
Nestled directly on Front Beach, Captain’s Bounty on the Beach boasts an unbeatable location in the heart of Rockport. Just steps away from the sand and a short stroll to the town’s shops, art galleries, and restaurants, it’s the perfect spot for those looking to immerse themselves in the local scene. Bearskin Neck is one of my favorite spots and I was thrilled to be able to park my car at the hotel and enjoy a picturesque 5-minute walk.
First Impression
Upon arrival, the hotel’s classic New England beach vibe and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a relaxing stay. The sound of waves crashing and the salty sea breeze immediately made me feel at ease. Carlos made check-in a breeze and told me they had given me a gorgeous room that I would love. I couldn’t wait to see where I’d be staying.
Let me show you around my suite.
I stayed on the 3rd floor in the
Captain’s Quarters
This spacious, top-floor suite feels like your own private beach house—with nautical decor and killer views. This suite is perfect if you like a little extra room to spread out.
Thank you for the warm welcome!
The suite has a cozy beach vibe with bright coastal touches and plenty of natural light. The living room is large and comfortable, with a sofa, chairs, and a flat-screen TV—perfect for relaxing after a day at the beach or browsing the shops on Bearskin Neck. Large windows frame stunning views of the Atlantic, and you can hear the waves crashing even from inside.
There is an eating area with a table and 4 chairs that is right in front of the window, offering a stunning view as you dine. It would also be a great spot to use as a desk to get some work done.
One of the best perks is the fully equipped kitchen. It has everything you need for a quick breakfast, a homemade meal, or sunset snacks with wine. There’s a full-size fridge, stove, microwave, utensils and cookware. Having a kitchen really comes in handy if you want to avoid eating out every meal—plus, it’s fun to make a quick meal and enjoy it on the balcony.
Wait…where’s the bedroom?
The best surprise I received with this suite was right up this winding staircase. The bedroom suite was located upstairs, with an even better view. The Captain’s Quarters is the only room, out of the 24 rooms in the hotel, that has 2 floors, so it was a big treat.
The bedroom is cozy and peaceful, with a comfortable bed that feels luxurious after a long day of beach walks and sightseeing. I felt spoiled as I heard the sound of the waves through the windows. I opened up all the windows and an amazing ocean breeze filled the room. It gave me a perfect night’s sleep and waking up to that sound immediately put a smile on my face.
There’s plenty of storage space, so you’re not living out of a suitcase all weekend. It even has a walk-in closet. The room also had a long countertop desk that overlooked the window. I did a little work in the morning while staring out at the ocean.
I love that the suite had a nautical vibe without being cheesy. They decorate like you would in your own home and the personal touches made a lasting impression.
2 Bathrooms
There are two bathrooms, which is a plus if you’re traveling with a group, want a little extra space, or if you just don’t feel like walking up and down the stairs. The bathrooms are clean and modern, stocked with fluffy towels and nautical décor.
Check out the balcony
The long balcony, is one of the highlights of the whole suite. It’s private, spacious, and offers panoramic views of Front Beach and beyond. It has plenty of seating and you will find it hard to leave this tranquil spot.
This is your view to the left. I love that stone gazebo in the distance.
And to your right you have a lovely view of town.
It felt so peaceful and I loved breathing in the salty air and enjoying some solitude. Ok…I shared my balcony with this cutie for a little bit.
Speaking of town, let’s go explore Rockport.
There is so much to do in the area. Before I checked in, I went to the Fisherman’s Memorial. (15-minute drive)
I stopped in to Castaway Vintage Coffee. It is an adorable coffee shop that also sells vintage clothes. It has a great patio. (12-minute drive)
I also spent some time at the historic Hammond Castle. (18-minute drive)
So now that I’ve checked in and gotten settled, I decided to walk over to Bearskin Neck. I was so excited about how close it was!
First, I grabbed a lobster roll from Roy Moore.
Any visit to Rockport must include getting a glimpse of Motif #1, one of the most painted buildings in America.
Then I poked through the adorable boutique shops and had a bit of retail therapy.
Before heading back to the hotel to read on the beach, I stopped at Robin’s Nest to get a pistachio gelato to enjoy on my balcony.
Although the hotel does not have a restaurant on site, it is surrounded by great places to eat within walking distance. I headed over to the Fish Shack (5-minute walk) ordered my meal and enjoyed a French martini while I waited.
Then I headed back to my room and enjoyed my lobster scampi on my balcony. I can’t think of a place with a better quieter view and it was all mine!
I was bummed because Mother Nature didn’t allow me to see the sunset I had read so much about, but even so, it was lovely sitting on the balcony enjoying a glass of wine as nightfall set.
The view at night was stunning!
Good morning, Rockport!
I love having a coffee maker in my room so I can enjoy a cup while still being in my pj’s. Grab your coffee and head to the balcony to start your day—it’s peaceful, breezy, and you can enjoy kayakers cruising by or lobster boats heading out for the day.
Morning is also a lovely time to head to the beach. Front Beach is quiet in the morning and you may have the beach all to yourself like I did.
Find some pretty shells to keep as mementos.
When my girls were younger, they would have loved exploring these rocks.
Watch ducks and birds enjoying the ocean. These are Gloucester seagulls…of course they are good fishermen!
Before I checked out, I walked back in to town to have breakfast at Brother’s Brew Coffee. They make a delicious bagel with smoked salmon.
I also stopped at Rockport Art Association & Museum to check out some exhibits from local artists.
After checking out, I went to Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, to have a tour of this stunning historic home.
Finally, my last stop of the trip was to explore Rocky Neck Art Colony. I had lunch at The Salty Cod Arthouse, a restaurant that has a collaboration with local artists that displays and sell their work.
I also poked in to some of the galleries. The amount of creativity in this area is astounding!
Final thoughts…
Overall, staying in the Captain’s Quarters feels like having your own slice of the coast, with the comforts of home and the beauty of Rockport right outside your window. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, breathe in the salty air, and stay just a few days longer.
