Bermuda

Sometimes you’ve got to get away and recharge without your kiddos.  You come back refreshed, unstressed, and ready to be the best parent possible.  Bermuda was the perfect location for us because it is only a 2-hour flight from Boston.  My good buddy Cynthia and I spent four fabulous nights there.  Here was our Bermuda itinerary:

Where do you fly in?

The best place to fly in is L. F. Wade International Airport

DAY 1

Took our flight from Boston to Bermuda.  (2-hour flight!)

Checked into our hotel, The Fourways Inn. (Read our full review of the hotel HERE)

The Fourways Inn, Bermuda

We went to the local market to buy cheese and cocktails.  We had planned on spending the rest of the afternoon by the pool, but it rained.  That was fine since we enjoyed rosé and cheese near the terrace.

We had an amazing dinner at the restaurant.

DAY 2

After a lovely breakfast on our terrace, we decided to explore Bermuda.

We took a car to the Royal Naval Dockyard.  You can also get to the dockyard by a ferry, which is a great way to see the coastline.

We had an amazing time at our Dolphin Quest experience. (Read a full review of our experience HERE.)

We had lunch at the Frog & Onion Pub, before exploring the Royal Naval Dockyard.

We were going to spend the afternoon at the beach at Coco Reef Beach Resort but it rained so we drank champagne by the pool and went for a swim.

We had such a great meal the night before, we decided to have dinner at the inn again and then drinks at the bar.

DAY 3

We woke up early to have a final breakfast on our patio at the inn.

We checked out of our hotel and checked into our next hotel, the Newstead Belmont Hills.

We took the complimentary ferry from the hotel to Hamilton for some shopping.

After we got back to the hotel we spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool. Check out how amazing their pool is!

We had wine at Zanzibar, a restaurant in the hotel and then ordered room service and enjoyed it on our terrace.

DAY 4

After coffee at the hotel, we took a car to Grotto Bay Beach Resort.

We had an amazing massage at Natura Cave Spa. It is by far one of the best massage experiences of my life.

Some Extra Tips about Bermuda

It is not in the Caribbean, although you will feel like it is.

You can not rent a car in Bermuda.  There are plenty of easy methods of transportation like buses, taxis, and ferries.

I would definitely not recommend using a scooter when you have kids with you.  (Personally, I wouldn’t even rent one without kids!)

There is no shortage of amazing pink-sand beaches.  Research which ones would be best for your family.

There are plenty of places to snorkel right off beaches.  Bring your own snorkel gear.

Check the weather! It is north of the Caribbean, so it gets pretty cold during winter months.

Many restaurants have dress codes, so men should pack collared shirts and slacks and women should pack dresses, skirts, and dress slacks.

The national drink is the Dark n’ Stormy.  Give it a try!!

Recipe for a Dark n’ Stormy

Ingredients:

2 oz. dark rum

3 oz. ginger beer

1/2 oz. lime juice (optional)

Directions:

Combine the rum, the ginger beer, and the lime juice in a tall glass full of ice cubes.  Stir.

Garnish with a lime wedge.  Enjoy!
