First…a little history.
St. Catherine’s monastery, founded in 1575, was created to care for female orphans. Over hundreds of years, cloistered nuns made an oath to lead a life of prayer, contemplation, and of service. They chose to lock themselves from the outside world, till death and beyond it. The monastery has been closed to the public for 400 years but you are now allowed to step inside and experience what life was like for them. You are not allowed to go into the upper floor because a few nuns still reside there.
