What You’ll Experience at Selby Gardens

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a paradise for plant lovers and adventure seekers alike. The gardens are divided into two campuses: the Downtown Sarasota Campus and the Historic Spanish Point Campus. Each offers a unique experience.  We experienced the Downtown Sarasota Campus.

Let Me Show You My Favorite Spots

While I was there I saw an amazing exhibit called:

George Harrison: A Gardener’s Life

Jean & Alfred Goldstein Exhibition Series

The exhibit explores the deep and meaningful connection between musician George Harrison – best known as the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band The Beatles – and the pastime of gardening, which became his greatest passion. I love this piece: Where All Things Must Pass. The entrance to the Tropical Conservatory features a stunning display of plants incorporating Barry Feinstein’s iconic photo of Harrison from the cover of his solo album, All Things Must Pass, released in 1970. The album itself can be heard in the background.

Old Jail

Old Jail Museum

Step back in time and learn about law enforcement history at this historic jailhouse. Guided tours feature fascinating stories about its past, complete with eerie tales of the inmates who once lived there. The preserved cells and artifacts give visitors a chilling glimpse into 19th-century justice. Some facts that will stick with you is that death row cells face the galley’s where prisoners are hung, so they can see their fate. It is also sad to see the names carved in the walls of the death row cells. You will get chills as you walk in to the cells after hearing the stories.
