Discovering the Ogunquit Museum of American Art: A Hidden Gem by the Sea

If you’re planning a visit to Ogunquit, Maine, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art (OMAA) should be on your must-do list. Tucked away by the rugged coastline, this museum combines a peaceful seaside experience with a rich collection of American modern art. This museum does a wonderful job capturing the essence of Ogunquit’s long-standing love for art and nature.

Check Out This Lobby

The museum has a gorgeous lobby because of its stunning ocean view. Watch the waves crashing on the shore and the fishing boats in the distance.

With over 3,000 works in its permanent collection, you’ll find paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photography that tell the story of American creativity from the late 1800s to the present.

Some notable artists even had ties to the area’s historic art colony.  It is the perfect place to discover your new favorite artist.

The museum is small, but contains some powerful pieces!

Sculpture Garden

One of the best features of the museum? Its waterfront sculpture gardens! Sculptures are scattered throughout the property, and the open-air setting makes it a perfect spot to take a breather. Check out some of my favorite pieces:

They’re not just for art lovers—if you need a place to relax and soak up the ocean views, this is it.

It’s nice to see the community using the space.  I saw this man bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it on the rocks.
