Hotel Klettur

Hotel Klettur

Where do you fly in?

The best place to fly in to is Keflavik International Airport

CLICK HERE TO FIND AN AMAZING FLIGHT

We arrived in Reykjavik, Iceland, at 6:30 after an overnight flight.  I had emailed the hotel in advance after finding out our original flight was canceled, letting them know we would be arriving much earlier than we had expected.  We completely understood that they could not tell me if a room would be available because the hotel was fully booked the night before out arrival.  So I had no clue what to expect and pictured us sleeping on a bench surrounded by our luggage, completely jet lagged.  We were so pleased that the hotel had a room available for us when we arrived.  They said they were expecting us and they immediately made us feel welcome.  Housekeeping was so kind to come in and set up the pull-out couch for the girls and bring us extra pillows.  Reception even sent someone down to make sure our room was large enough and offered us an even bigger room, but the family room was just right for our jet lagged family.  We pulled the light-block shades and took a four-hour nap.

The quiet location of the hotel is ideal for people who want to be close to the main tourist section, but not directly in it.  Laugavegur, Reykjavik’s main shopping street, is only a five-minute walk from the hotel.  There are also many restaurants in the area.

Our Family Room

We stayed in a family room which was large enough to fit two twin beds and a large pull-out couch for the girls.  Sometimes a pull-out couch is a nightmare, but this one was so comfortable that I wouldn’t have minded sleeping there.

Although we didn’t use them, the room had a television and a refrigerator. The room had a large wardrobe as well as a desk.  I always appreciate a functional desk since I often write in the evening.

The room had a living area with a couch and coffee table and a large wardrobe.  The room also had a safe, which is a nice touch when you are traveling with passports and other important documents.

There was tea and coffee in the room, which is nice to have when relaxing after a long day.

The bathroom was very large! The sink had a large basin and the glass shower was big enough that you could really stretch out. The towel warmer was a nice touch and I’m sure it comes in handy on cold winter nights.

Lounge/Bar

The hotel has a beautiful, stylish bar that is open daily from 4pm-10pm.  It is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a cocktail after a long day exploring the city.  We went down to have some cocktails after walking around Reykjavik all day.  We had some Moscow mules while watching a soccer game.  Since it was Mother’s Day, the hotel was giving moms 50% off of all drinks.   The bar offers an excellent selection of Icelandic beers and they have a great Happy Hour from 6pm-8pm where they offer two draft beers for the price of one.

If your kids need entertainment while at the hotel, they will love the game room.  It features a pool table in a comfortable, inviting room.

They also have a television in the lounge room that plays children’s shows to entertain kids while parents relax with a beverage.

There were many comfortable spots throughout the hotel where you could sit and read or relax.

Since we had a busy day ahead of us, we were happy to see the hotel offered breakfast.  They had everything you could want for a delicious breakfast including cereals, fruit, pastries, cheese, cold cuts, and bread.  The coffee was especially good.  Breakfast is served from 7am to 10 am, but I love that the hotel offers earlier breakfast options for people who have an early morning flight.  That is so considerate of them! The fact that breakfast is included in the stay is wonderful considering how astronomical the price of food is in Iceland.

Everyone from the receptionist, housecleaning, and bartender, were kind, courteous, and welcoming.

Tips for Planning Your Stay:

-There is a large parking area with free parking for hotel guests.  Find a spot outside to park your car while you check in and then move your car to the underground parking garage where your car will be kept safe.  You will need your room key to open the gate to the garage.

-There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, and we had no problem connecting with the internet or with the speed.

-There are plenty of restaurants and shops in the area.
