Hotel Laki
Since this was our first trip to Iceland we decided to move around southern Iceland and exploring the area around each hotel. Hotel Laki is a wonderful place to call home if you would like to be in an area close to Jökulsárlón (the iceberg lagoon), since it is only about an hour and a half to get there. It is also a great location to explore the black sand beaches of Vik and the amazing waterfalls around the southeast coast.

As we drove up towards the hotel, we saw some beautiful horses that are neighbors of the hotel. They looked so darling we had to stop, get out, and give them some love.
Just look at the beautiful view before you pull into the hotel.
What I like best about this hotel is the fact that it is family owned and operated. You can see the love and pride the family has in their establishment and you can see they care about their guests by the kind service they give them.
Our 2 Rooms
The beautiful Hotel Laki has 64 rooms, ranging from standard to economy. The hotel was kind enough to give us two rooms so we could spread out. My husband and I decided to have one kid in each room so we could have the space but still feel comfortable knowing there was an adult in each room.
Our first room was so spacious! It had a double bed with a cozy comforter and pillows.
The room also had a sitting area with a couch, table, television, and beautiful rugs. My daughter was so comfortable on the couch that she ended up sleeping on it.
The desk allowed for lots of room to write and it also held an assortment of tea and coffee. I loved having a cup of tea before going to bed.
The view was the best part! The room had its own patio area. I imagine when the weather gets warm it would be lovely to sit outside enjoying the view.
Our 2nd room had two twin beds. I love that in Iceland, instead of sheets, they use down comforters with a duvet on it that they change and each person gets their own comforter.
There was a sitting area with a television and a desk.
Again, there was a breathtaking view with a patio.
Both bathrooms had a shower with strong water pressure. The clever glass shower door folds back to give the bathroom more room when you’re not using it. This hotel also offered tons of toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shave cream, a shoe shining kit, and a sewing kit. What else could you need?
In summer, there are 15 cottages that have cooking facilities, refrigerator, and a shower. Aren’t they adorable? If I was staying here in summer I would definitely choose to stay in a cottage.
Rooftop Viewing Area
Since the hotel is so secluded, it is a prime location to see the Northern Lights. The hotel has a glassed rooftop area that allows you to see a 360 degree view of the lights without freezing yourself outside. There is also an open-air area on the roof you can enjoy. Afraid you will miss the lights when you fall asleep? No worries…should you choose to use it, the hotel has a wake-up service that will let you know when the lights are out in full effect.
Hotel Restaurant
Since the hotel is rather isolated, we chose to have dinner at the hotel restaurant that night. The restaurant has a fantastic view and the ceiling to floor windows allowed tons of light to stream in.
I had a delicious grilled char for dinner
And my husband had a wonderful lamb dish.
Breakfast
On this trip, we were always so pleased when breakfast was included with our stay since the food in Iceland is quite expensive. It is a great way to fill up before heading out to explore. The hotel offers an impressive breakfast buffet that included bacon, eggs, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, Skye yogurt, juice, and some wonderful bread. They even had a make-your-own waffle station. We loved the coffee in Iceland since it is strong, but not bitter.

A warm thank you to the Hotel Laki for having my family as guests of your hotel. The quiet setting allowed us to relax after a day of exploring Iceland. As always, my experiences and opinions are 100% my own.
