LOCATION
We stayed at the Waldorf during our one-night layover following our trip to Greece. The location is perfect if you are looking to see a play because the theatre district is right around the corner. It is also a short walk from Covent Garden. If you are there for business, the hotel is located just two miles from London’s financial district. It had great ambiance and is authentically classy, as is expected in most Waldorf hotels, yet it felt comfortable and welcoming for families with children.
CONCIERGE
I cannot stress how impressed I was with the personal attention the concierge paid to our family while we were there. We asked him for a recommendation for a good restaurant and he suggested one that was near the hotel. When we asked if we should make reservations, he said he would take care of it personally. Instead of just calling, he walked over to the restaurant, spoke to the hostess, and requested his favorite table. When we showed up, before we said a word, the hostess said, “Good evening Mr. Johnson, we have a table reserved especially for your family.” He must have given a description of our family because we didn’t have to say who we were. It was a personal touch that we will never forget about the Waldorf.
GUEST ROOMS
My mother-in-law and my two girls stayed in room with two beds and it was a really large room with high ceilings that made the room feel even larger.
Although we had a spacious room, I have heard that it is hit or miss for the size of your room. All rooms contain elegant bathrooms, tea and coffee facilities, flat screen TVs, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, and minibar. Upgraded rooms also have fluffy robes, daily newspaper, and complimentary bottled water. Each room has a unique old-world charm and it was so quiet even with a busy street outside.
AMENITIES
The hotel had a beautiful pool but when we were there it wasn’t available because they were doing renovations on it. I can’t imagine what they were doing because it was breathtaking already. This picture is what the pool looked like when we were there. It was a 14-meter heated indoor pool.
Good Godfrey’s Bar and Lounge
Good Godfrey’s serves breakfast and lunch during the day. In the evening the mixologists create amazing cocktails and they serve some food.
Homage Restaurant
This beautiful dining room offers several selections for breakfast including a gourmet breakfast, traditional English breakfast, or selections such as pancakes, fresh fruit, and eggs. In the evening, it is a perfect place to have a pre- or post-theatre meal since it is so close to the theater district. They offer a seasonal menu that changes monthly.
AFTERNOON TEA
The Waldorf serves a traditional English tea that includes a typical three-tier stand with finger sandwiches such as smoked salmon, egg and watercress, and cucumber and cheese. They also have traditional scones with Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry preserves. The final tier contains delicate afternoon tea pastries.
