ST. ERMIN’S HOTEL
On our way to Santorini, we stopped in London for two nights to break up the flight. Since we had such little time, the location of our hotel was really important. This is what first drew us to the St. Ermin’s Hotel. Within walking distance to Buckingham Palace, St. James Park, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Scotland Yard, and the subway, it’s the perfect central location.

First impression
We walked into the lobby and gasped at how beautiful it was. It has a cascading staircase made of white marble and huge crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling.
My mother-in-law was traveling with us, so my husband and I stayed in one room and they stayed in another. The hotel is very strict about the number of people in a room, even if the kids are very young, so if you are a family of five, be prepared.
Our room
Let me show you around my beautiful room. I stayed in a deluxe king room. It had a comfortable bed with cozy linens. It had a flat-screened TV, entertainment system, desk with multi-national electrical sockets, and free WiFi. It also had a phone, radio with MP3 docking station, coffee & tea making machine, and a mini-bar.
The room had a simple bathroom with marble floors, shower and tub, but it had no counter space. It also had nice bath amenities and a hair dryer which worked pretty well. They offer really comfortable bath robes.
The rest of our family stayed in a deluxe guest room with two double beds.
A hotel for bees
The hotel has a small garden with 3 custom built bee hives that are homes to over 300,000 Buckfast bees. They are free to come and go from the hive and you can view their activity from behind a glass wall. The hotel uses the honey in their breakfast buffet, and it’s neat for kids to try it knowing they saw the hive it came from.
The roof also contains the kitchen garden, packed with delicious fruit and vegetables, which like the honey, find their way to the hotel’s kitchens.
Breakfast at St. Ermin’s Hotel
Since we had lots of fun activities planned for the day, we wanted to give the girls a big breakfast. I had heard lots of good things about the breakfast buffet so decided it was a good way to start our day. It is quite pricey (21 pounds), but if you are Marriott gold members breakfast is included. The breakfast buffet had a large selection of a typical English breakfast. It included fruit, cereals, yogurts, eggs, bacon, sausage, cold cuts, pastries, and an assortment of breads.
My youngest daughter’s birthday was on the day we were leaving and when we told our waiter, he presented her with the sweetest birthday surprise at the end of the meal while having the staff sing Happy Birthday to her. It was a lovely touch that started out her birthday perfectly.
The hotel is elegant and would make the perfect setting for a couple’s getaway, yet it is casual and welcoming that I was completely comfortable bringing my kids with me.
Afternoon Tea at St. Ermin’s Hotel
I wish we had time to have afternoon tea. You can indulge in afternoon tea at the St. Ermin’s Tea Lounge and in the summer months tea can also be taken on their outdoor terrace.
