What You’ll Experience at Selby Gardens
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a paradise for plant lovers and adventure seekers alike. The gardens are divided into two campuses: the Downtown Sarasota Campus and the Historic Spanish Point Campus. Each offers a unique experience. We experienced the Downtown Sarasota Campus.
Let Me Show You My Favorite Spots
While I was there I saw an amazing exhibit called:
George Harrison: A Gardener’s Life
Jean & Alfred Goldstein Exhibition Series
The exhibit explores the deep and meaningful connection between musician George Harrison – best known as the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band The Beatles – and the pastime of gardening, which became his greatest passion. I love this piece: Where All Things Must Pass. The entrance to the Tropical Conservatory features a stunning display of plants incorporating Barry Feinstein’s iconic photo of Harrison from the cover of his solo album, All Things Must Pass, released in 1970. The album itself can be heard in the background.
Ye Palm Garden is from the cover of one of his solo albums.
Ye (Gently)Weeping Garden
Fans of The Beatles will appreciate the play on the title of Harrison’s hit song, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, released by the band in 1968.
Tropical Conservatory
Stroll through diverse gardens like the Tropical Conservatory and feel like you are on a tropical getaway.
Children’s Rainforest Garden
The Children’s Rainforest Garden is a must-visit for families, featuring an interactive play area with a treehouse, caves, and waterfalls.
Mangrove Walkway
The mangrove walkway is a lovely spot.
Make sure you peer through the trees to find statues.
These trees make you want to reach out and touch them…or give them a great big hug.
These roots are majestic.
Bayfront Sanctuary
Don’t miss the Bayfront Sanctuary for its stunning views and peaceful ambiance.
Koi Pond
The peaceful koi pond is a wonderful place for reflection.
You immediately feel a sense of calm here.
I loved watching people use this gong. The deep sound would vibrate through the gardens.
Who Should Visit?
Kids will love the interactive rainforest garden and wide-open spaces. F
or couples, it’s a romantic spot for a leisurely walk or a scenic picnic by the water.
It is also great for nature enthusiasts. With over 20,000 plants and flowers, it’s a dream for anyone who loves the outdoors.
