Harraseeket Inn

One of my favorite destinations in Maine is the coastal town of Freeport.  It oozes New England charm and has everything I could want in a vacation…the ocean, restaurants, boutiques, farms, and lots of outdoor activities.  When staying in Freeport, there is only one place I stay…The Harraseeket Inn.  It has cozy rooms, a delicious on-site restaurant, and is the perfect location to call your home.  However, what keeps me coming back to the inn is the staff.  They are attentive without being invasive and they welcome you to the inn like it is their home.

Check out this stunning outdoor décor…

This was the first time I’d stayed at the Harraseeket during fall and I was awed by all of the beautiful autumnal décor.

The inn has even more of a New England feel when it is decorated with pumpkins, mums, and corn stalks.

Just look at these enormous pumpkins at the front entrance! I had to touch them to make sure they were real!

The inside of the inn is welcoming and there are spots where you can sit by the fire and read.

However, my favorite room in the inn is this one!  It reminds me of a parlor in a palace.

Just look at this fireplace!

Check out my room…

I fell in love with my room as soon as I walked in.  The bed was made of simple bedding, and had sheets that made you want to crawl right in.  The furniture made me feel like I was in a farmhouse, and I especially loved this blue valor armchair.

The room was so large!

The room also had a lovely sitting area with a wood-burning fireplace.

There was also a desk, and I was thrilled to see they had some tasty treats from Wilbur’s of Maine!

You know I love a good bathroom!

The private bathroom was enormous and had lots of amenities.  I’m obsessed with these robes and couldn’t wait until bed time when I could bundle myself up in one.

Hello! Look at this outdoor fire pit…

The Harraseeket Inn is a perfect walking distance to fun activities downtown, yet you feel like you are away from the crowds.  As I headed out, I stopped to take a peek at their outdoor fire pit.  It’s an amazing spot to end your night.  You can make some s’mores or just enjoy the fire with a tasty cocktail.  I love how the maple trees frame your view.

Exploring downtown…

As much as I wanted to read a book by the firepit, I was on a mission…to shop! I was able to check in early, so I had the whole morning to do some retail therapy. Lucky for me (but maybe not as lucky for my husband when he saw all the packages I came home with) I was at the mecca of outlet stores! I loved poking into the small boutiques and strolling downtown with my steaming latte. Of course, no trip to Freeport would be complete without going to LL Bean.  It’s great for shopping, exploring a new hobby, or learning some new skills.  I took a fun archery class here a few years ago!

Since I had quite a few bags with me, I decided to drop my bags off at the inn before going back out.  I had the most beautiful gift waiting for me in my room.  The Harraseeket Inn always makes me feel so welcome.

Time to do some outdoor activities…

There is so much to do in the area around Freeport, and I couldn’t wait to spend the afternoon outdoors.

My first stop was the Wolfe Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment.  I brought my bike with me and had a lovely coastal ride.

Your kids will love stopping in the barn to say hello to all the adorable farm animals.

Next, I visited Pineland Farm, which was right outside of Freeport.  It is a quintessential New England farm with stunning views!

And what would fall be without a corn maze?

My last stop of the day was to Wilbur’s of Maine, one of my all-time favorite candy stores. (Check with them to see if they are offering tours since they stopped doing them during the pandemic.)

When I headed back to the inn, I decided to take a look around the grounds.

Everywhere you look, there are stunning gardens.  It is the perfect place to have a picnic, play yard games, or sit in an Adirondack chair and read.

How beautiful are these stone steps?

If you’re looking for some friendly competition, the inn has a corn hole set that is under a covered porch.

Dinner at Broad Arrow Tavern

I must admit that I was a little nervous about eating out for dinner because I had not been eating in restaurants much during this pandemic.  However, I was pleased to see that the Broad Arrow Tavern had the option of outdoor dining.   As soon as I stepped outside, I relaxed because I could see they have created a safe, clean eating environment. Now it was time to get a peek at the MENU!

I started with a Pearl Pomegranate Cosmopolitan.  The patio was so peaceful.  The water feature bubbles in the background and the firepit was crackling.

and a Tuna Tartar.

For my meal, I had a sinful pasta dish.  It had a creamy cheese sauce and full of lobster. (No counting carbs on this trip!)

I couldn’t resist trying some dessert because they all sounded so good! I tried the blueberry crumble with a delicious vanilla ice cream. It was the perfect end to the meal.

After dinner I couldn’t wait to slip on my robe, pour myself a glass of wine, and snuggle in bed with a girly movie.  I fell asleep before the movie ended and had the best night’s sleep!

Good morning! Time for breakfast…

The Harraseeket Inn is known for their famous breakfast buffets, but for the safety of their guests, they were not running it as they usually do.  You could still have a hearty warm New England breakfast, but they bring it to your table and there is less of a selection. I was very tempted to sit at one of the tables that were next to the crackling fireplace.

However, since it was a gorgeous morning, I decided to take my meal outside and eat it in this stunning setting.

I was so sad to leave the Harraseeket Inn, but I know I will return again soon!

Wonder what else you can do in the area?

Extra precautions the inn takes during COVID-19…

There were wipes at the door of the elevator.

There were hand sanitizers all throughout the inn.

There were face masks at the front door.

The rooms were spotless and they even go so far as putting the remote control in a plastic bag! (Yep…that’s what I always do too!)

Staff all wore masks and they were required throughout the inn.

I saw staff members cleaning door knobs and the front desk area.

Tips for a perfect stay…

Pool: The inn has a large indoor pool.  The room has lots of windows that let in light so you almost feel like you are outdoors.  You may want to call the inn to see what their pool policy is before you go.  I know while I was there, they were asking people to schedule a time slot to limit the number of people using it at a time.

Fitness room:  The fitness room overlooks the pool area and it is air conditioned.  They provide fresh water for you to enjoy during your workouts.  When I was there, they were asking that you reserve a time slot to work out.  I love that they are limiting the number of people in the gym. You may want to ask the inn what their policies are before you go.

Afternoon tea: The inn serves an unforgettable afternoon tea; however, they’ve had to put a hold on it for the safety of their guests.  Check the website to see if they are offering it again.

Breakfast is complimentary for all in-house guests who book their room reservations directly with them, either over the phone or on their website.

I visited the inn in September and dining regulations may be different now, so you may want to call the inn ahead of your stay to see what dining options are available.

Pet Friendly:  As a dog lover, I admire hotels that go the extra mile for our furry little friends.  The inn offers several pet friendly rooms.  They provide dog treats with their turn-down service, as well as cozy dog beds.  They can arrange for dog sitting, dog walking, and even grooming. The best part is that 20% of their pet charge fee is donated to the Coastal Humane Society in Brunswick, Maine. (Check to make sure their pet policy has not changed.)

A warm thank you to the Harraseeket Inn for having me as your guest.  The kind hospitality of your staff and the comfort of the inn made it an amazing stay.  There really is nowhere else I’d stay while in Freeport.  As always, all experiences and opinions are 100% my own.
