THE NONANTUM RESORT
KENNEBUNKPORT, MAINE
Since it was the first time I’d be traveling after being home for 6 months, I was very particular about where my first stay would be. I knew there was no other place I wanted to stay in Maine…The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. The Nonantum is one of the most beautiful resorts in Maine and the perfect destination for families, a girlfriends’ getaway, a couple’s romantic escape, or a solo trip, like mine. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing getaway or one filled with adventure, this is the resort to look at.
THE GROUNDS
Since I arrived a bit early, I took some time to enjoy the grounds of the resort. It is absolutely stunning and I felt so relaxed as I sat in the Adirondack chairs and watched the water.
Their lighthouse is a unique feature to the resort and sets the nautical scene.
The foliage was bursting with color and offered a stunning backdrop to the view.
The grounds are huge and offer plenty of space for social distancing.
MY ROOM
The family-owned resort offers rooms in two buildings. This time I stayed in the Portside Lodge in room 356, a Portside King Bed Waterview.
It had a beachy feel with its white furniture, sea blue walls, white linens, wicker furniture, and prints on the walls of lobster boats. I also love the wood floors in the room.
The room had a comfortable king bed with simple linens and plush pillows. It also had a pretty work desk.
There were two wicker chairs and a stove
that made a nice sitting area by the window.
The room had a large television, good Wi-Fi, adjustable air conditioning, an iron, and ironing board. There was a station in the room that had a Keurig and a nice selection of coffee and tea. You may want to bring your own bottled water. I liked that there was a refrigerator in my room, as well as a microwave.
The bathroom was simple, and had a powerful stand-up shower. There were plenty of bath amenities, towels, and a blow dryer.
I had the loveliest view of the Kennebunk River.
I couldn’t get enough of watching the lobster boats come in and out of the river.
The view only got more beautiful as evening set in.
PINEAPPLE KETCH
After I checked in, I headed to the resort’s dock and hopped aboard the Pineapple Ketch, for a 2-hour sail. They had limited the number of people allowed to book, so there was just 8 other people and 2 captains.
We headed out to the ocean and took a cruise past Walker Point, where the Bush family has homes.
We sailed back into the river and enjoyed looking at the changing foliage, shoreline, and boats in the river and marina.
I couldn’t get enough of the view from my seat right up front near the bow.
The resort looked stunning from the boat!
LOCATION
After my sail I decided to walk into town, which is a quick 15-minute stroll. There are tons of restaurants, breweries, and shops. (Not to mention some pretty amazing ice cream shops.)
RESORT AMENITIES
There is something for everyone at the Nonantum. If you would like an active vacation, during fall you can still rent:
Kayaks
Bikes
The resort also has basketball, cornhole, ladder ball, giant Jenga, and big connect 4.
You can also rent: cribbage boards, crabbing kits, and kites.
Feel like going to a beach? The resort offers beach passes to Kennebunk Beach as well as Mothers Beach. You can even rent beach chairs, umbrellas, and fishing poles.
Need something to entertain your teen on a rainy day? The resort offers Wii video games for 2 or 4 hour rentals.
Feel like getting out on the water and catching some lobster? Try going out on the Rugosa Lobster boat. My daughters loved doing this the first time we stayed at the resort. Click here to read all about our experience.
95 OCEAN
I did not dine here this time, because it was not open on the night I was there, but I have eaten there in the past and it was delicious.
This summer the resort got really creative with their dining experiences. They have set up private cabanas on the river where you can enjoy a fabulous meal while watching the view. This looks so romantic and I’ve booked a cabana for my 20th anniversary dinner. I can’t wait!
LATITUDES & HECKMAN’S PUB are not open at right now, but their main restaurant is.
FIRE PITS
Another creative thing the resort is doing this year is allowing families to book a private fire pit. The resort provides a s’mores kit for you to create some memories together. ($50 per fire pit and need to be reserved by noon. There is also an 8-person limit per pit.)
SUNSET
One of the most relaxing part of my stay was when I brought a drink down to the waterfront and watched the sun set. It was the perfect end to a fun-filled day.
GOOD MORNING!
After a refreshing night sleep, I started my day with a cup of New England coffee in my room while enjoying the view.
OCEAN AVENUE
I headed down to the main dining rom and enjoyed a delicious hot breakfast, and then I decided to take a long walk on Ocean Avenue. (Ok…mostly to work off the huge breakfast since I went a bit overboard on the carbs. In my defense, the pastries were irresistible.) From the resort, it is a short walk to picturesque marinas,
St. Anne’s Church
with it’s breathtaking outdoor chapel,
the beach,
the jetty,
And lots of views of the rugged Maine coastline.
COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES
There was excellent communication from the hotel before my stay listing their safety guidelines.
Staff all wore masks and there was signage around the hotel grounds. There were also hand sanitizing stations throughout the grounds.
Breakfast is served to you instead of a buffet, like they had in the past.
Unless you are there for longer than 3 days, they do not offer daily housekeeping.
I felt completely comfortable throughout my entire stay.
