If you are looking for a resort that will take you back to the simplicities of your carefree childhood summers, the Margate Resort is for you.  This family friendly resort sits directly on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee and offers an affordable vacation that everyone will enjoy.

The resort offers three buildings to choose from.  The Lakefront Building has both lake views as well as courtyard views.  They contain either a double bed or a king.  Suites are also available, which are wonderful for families.

A neat feature the building offers is an underground walkway that leads you to the indoor pool, restaurant, fitness room, and front desk.

The West Building is a 2-section building that is located just steps from the beach.  It was built in 1952, and was the original building.  Finally, the Inn Building is located across the street.  It contains no lake views but is next to the outdoor pool.  I love when a resort offers many room options.

Our Room

We stayed in the Lakefront Building in a room that contained two double beds.  It was located right next to the beach as well as the Gazebo Bar.  Our room was clean and comfortable and the pillows on the bed were amazing.  It contained a stainless steel fridge, which was wonderful to store our beverages and snacks.  It contained a Keurig coffee maker and they provided Green Mountain coffee.  A hairdryer, iron, and ironing board helped make us feel more at home.  Also, free wireless Wi-Fi was a nice touch.

The Lake

The resort is located on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, which is the largest lake in New Hampshire.  We had planned on doing a day trip away from the resort but when we saw how beautiful the lake was we changed our plans.  We spent the entire day swimming, jumping off the raft, and lounging in the sun.  There is so much to do at the resort that you will not run out of things to do.

My daughter loved sitting in the hammocks reading her book.  She said it was the most relaxing part of our trip.

When you’re relaxing on the shores you will enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains.  Even when there were lots of people on the beach it felt very peaceful.  The beach is long so everyone has their own space.  My girls loved the complimentary popcorn cart they offered.  I loved that the staff would take drink orders right from the beach. Cheers!

If you would like to get moving, you can rent a kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or canoe.

You can also take a nice swim to the floating raft. My girls loved jumping off the raft into the clear lake water and seeing how quickly they could swim back to shore.  The lakefront had soft clean sand, not mucky and rocky like some lakes get.

Indoor Pool

We checking into our room at about 4:00 so we decided to use the indoor pool on our first day.  The pool was huge and located in a room that was the perfect temperature.  (I hate when resorts keep the indoor pool area too warm.) There is also an outdoor pool but we didn’t end up using it since we spent the entire day at the lake.

Fitness Center

There’s no need to skip a workout when you have a fitness room like theirs.  It contains treadmills, elliptical machines, weight stations, and dumbbells. The fitness center overlooks the pool area and it was nice to see so many people using the machines.

Gazebo Bar

The bar is the place to be for lunch or dinner.  It offers breathtaking views of the lake and a wide variety of food on their menu.  The bar offers 10 beers on tap as well as delicious cocktails.  We had lunch here and we had an attentive waitress who gave us suggestions of her favorites from the menu.

In the middle of lunch we were pleasantly surprised to hear live music being played next to the bar.  Breathtaking views, good music, yummy food, and a cold beer made for a perfect lunch.

Blackstones Restaurant

The resort offers a complimentary continental breakfast each morning that consists of bagels, English muffins, croissants, cereal, pastries, oatmeal, yogurt, and fresh fruit. I was very impressed with the assortment of food they offer.    They also offer a hot breakfast buffet every day for an additional cost.

Sunsets

The best way to end the day is to grab a cocktail and sit on the beach while you watch the colors explode in the sky over Lake Winnipesaukee. mar4
