Residence Inn Portsmouth Downtown/Waterfront
Portsmouth, New Hampshire
With school starting up, we have already had a busy fall . Both girls are now in high school and are busy with sports and theater so, needless to say, there’s lots of running around for this mom. I could not have been more thrilled to spend a night at the Residence Inn Portsmouth Downtown/Waterfront, in the gorgeous seacoast town of Portsmouth, NH.
Portsmouth holds a special place in my heart because we were married here and we have so many fond memories attached to it. I was excited to come back here and see it’s beauty in the same month as my anniversary.
First impression
Check-in was quick and easy and everyone at the front desk was so kind. The hotel was decorated with lovely autumn decorations.
It looked beautiful and immediately got you in the autumn spirit.
Check Out My Suite
The Residence Inn Portsmouth Downtown/Waterfront is an all-suites hotel, which gives you all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Let me show you around my suite. I stayed in room #502, a
1 Bedroom Suite
The suite had 2 rooms and would have been perfect if I had brought my kids.
The first room had a living room area with a fold-out couch and some side chairs. It was so spacious.
There was a desk to get a little work done.
And a small dining area.
The room also had a kitchenette. The appliances included a full-size refrigerator, microwave oven, and dishwasher. There was also a Keurig coffeemaker and a toaster. It had everything you would need to enjoy meals in your room including pots, pans, utensils, dishes, glasses, wine glasses, a strainer, spatulas and mixing spoons, and even a measuring cup.
The Bedroom
The bedroom had a comfortable king bed and four comfortable pillows. There was a flat-screen tv, and an ironing board and iron. The Wi-Fi worked really well and I never had any problems with it.
The view from the bedroom was very pretty and there was even a peek of the Piscataqua River. Since there was a window on each wall, there was tons of natural light in the room.
The bathroom was simple, spacious, and had a tub.

There is a fireplace in the lobby with comfortable spots to sit.
So, what did I do in the area my first day?
On my way to Portsmouth, I stopped in Kittery to do some outlet shopping. It’s a lovely area that is a short drive from the hotel.
My Second stop was to Great Island Common, a picturesque park with views of two lighthouses, a small beach, and lots of lawn space.
Downtown Portsmouth has so many cute boutique shops and I loved exploring all of them. It’s a beautiful downtown area with restaurants, shops, and views.
On the way back to the hotel, I stopped at Stroll, a café and wine bar across the street from the Residence Inn. It was so lovely to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine.
Time for breakfast!
After a wonderful night’s sleep, I couldn’t wait to go down and get some breakfast. They serve a complimentary continental breakfast that included sausage egg and cheese biscuits, oatmeal, boiled eggs, bagels, English muffins, yogurt, fruit, and pastries.
More fun around Portsmouth
Before I started my exploring, I walked back to Stroll to have one of their signature Stroll Maple Latte.
My plan for the day was to enjoy a sunny autumn day outside and to explored the beaches and parks around Portsmouth.
First stop of the day was to Prescott Park, a gorgeous waterfront park that’s walking distance from the hotel. This park is very special to me because my husband and I took our wedding photos here. Our wedding was in October, so the foliage and flowers were exactly like they were on that day 23 years ago.
It’s a lovely place to relax.
Driving around Portsmouth is so picturesque and there are always spots where you’ll want to jump out and take a picture. Newcastle is a beautiful waterfront town.
How could I not stop?
Since Portsmouth is so close to the seacoast beaches, and it was a 70-degree day, I couldn’t resist.
I spent the day at the gorgeous Wallis Sands Beach. I had the beach almost all to myself.
I spent a lovely morning reading, walking in the sand, and I even got my feet in the water.
