The Wentworth Inn
New England is filled with quaint, picturesque towns, and Jackson, New Hampshire is one that should not be missed. Jackson is 3 hours from Boston, 1 ½ hours from Portland, and a half hour from Conway. Jackson Village has adorable places to eat, shop, and have coffee. Your mood will be set as you pass through the covered bridge coming in to town.
As I crossed the bridge and passed a picturesque country church, the Wentworth Inn came into view and I was so happy to have arrived. This romantic inn was built as a wedding gift from a father to his daughter in 1869 and you can still feel all the love that was put into building it. When I arrived at the inn I immediately fell in love with its wrap-around porch. The wicker tables and chairs provide many spots to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of Jackson.
Since I was traveling without my husband or kids, my key goal was to focus on myself and let the stress melt away. After I checked into my room I made a cup of coffee, grabbed my book, and read while the sound of the river could be heard in the background. Let the relaxation begin!
The lobby is beautifully furnished and impeccably clean. Although there were mostly couples around, I’m sure my girls would have felt welcomed.
I could hardly wait to climb the stairs to head to my room.
The inn has 61 rooms and suites featuring modern amenities while keeping its New England charm. I absolutely loved staying in one of the Thorncraft Suites. As I opened the door I walked into a lovely living room that had a table, couch, cozy chair, and flat screen tv.
The room had nice personal touches, like paintings of lovely Jackson.
The living room has a gas fireplace that would be perfect for cold winter nights. I enjoyed it the next morning as I lounged around with my coffee.
My bedroom, which was separated from the living room area with a set of glass French doors, had a king size bed with elegant touches like a leather bench and a decorative throw. The bed was so comfortable!
The room also had a functional desk, a flat-screened tv, and a Keurig coffee pot with New England coffee. The room had a DVD player and there were a large selection of movies you could borrow from the inn. The room even had a fridge, which I love to chill your wine and keep snacks cold. Another special treat was surround sound was installed in the bedroom, living room, bathroom, and hot tub room.
Just look at how amazing the chandelier was!
You know I love a good bathroom so I was so happy to see the bathroom was enormous! The room had a large double vanity with ample toiletries. I also liked the fact it had a water closet, to keep the toilet separate from the rest of the bathroom.
Another unique feature of the bathroom was the steam shower! This would be a luxury after a long day of skiing or hiking.
What I like best is when you have an unexpected surprise in your room. I noticed there was a door in the bathroom and I was curious to see where it led. I was
blown away when I saw that THIS was hiding behind it! I could not have been happier! My very own hot tub! The window behind the hot tub allowed cool air and moonlight to creep in.
And how fun that there is a tv in the hot tub room! This was honestly one of the best surprises I’ve had in a room!! It was such a treat and I would definitely recommend staying in a suite that has one.
The inn is the perfect place for an authentic New Hampshire meal. The inn has a farm-to-table restaurant specializing in locally sourced fare. Take a look at their delicious menu. (link the menu)
I chose to eat in the lounge since it looked cozy and comfortable. This was actually the first time I’ve eaten in a restaurant alone since I normally just order room service when I am traveling by myself. However, the lounge was so inviting that I felt completely at ease and enjoyed a great meal. Tam was an amazing bartender and such a pleasure to speak to. It’s always nice to talk to someone that loves travel as much as I do. Plus, her blueberry mules were unbelievable!
The Wentworth has a full-service gym complimentary to guests of the hotel. It is open from 6:30 AM until 10:00 PM. Make sure you bring your guest room key to open the door to the gym.
The Wentworth has an outdoor heated pool. Since it was a rainy, chilly day when I visited I did not get the opportunity to use it, but I know my kids would have loved it if they were there and they would not have let the cold air stop them from going in!
The Wentworth has a lovely spa, and I wish I had the time to have experienced it. The treatments on the spa menu looked so relaxing. Take a peek at the menu!
The Wentworth lies nestled in charming Jackson Village in the scenic White Mountains of New Hampshire. There is so much to do in the area including:
Covered bridges
Waterfalls
Skiing
Hiking
Sleigh rides
Ice skating
Swimming
Mountain biking
It is the perfect place to call home as you take day trips in the area and do some fun activities like going to the top of Mount Washington, a family day at Storyland, shopping in Conway, or enjoying a game of golf next door at the Wentworth Golf Club.
If you go to just one spot, I would recommend walking up the street to see the beauty of Jackson Falls. These waterfalls are gorgeous any time of year and during summer people love to head to the falls to swim in the cool mountain water. Just look at how breathtaking they are.
The Wentworth has many spots to relax throughout the inn. Feel like playing a game of pool? The inn has a beautiful billiards table that is surrounded by windows. Feel like staying at the inn on a rainy day? The inn offers a variety of board game, books to read, and an extensive DVD library.
