Villa Hygge Hotel
North Conway, NH
Conway holds a special place in my heart and I was so excited to find this gem of a hotel nestled in the White Mountains. For the past few years, I’ve been interested in the concept of hygge. What is hygge? Glad you asked. “Hygge” is a Scandinavian concept of taking time away from the daily rush, to be together with people you care about – or even by yourself – to relax and enjoy life’s quieter pleasures. You celebrate the small joys of life. It is an opportunity to unwind and take things slow. Villa Hygge Hotel embodies this concept and you will walk away a changed person.
First impression
As soon as you walk through the front door, you can tell it is going to be a special stay. I loved sitting down with Mari Corbett, the owner, and enjoying a chilled glass of sangria while she told me stories of life in Finland. Her upbringing gave her the desire to bring a little piece of Finland to New England for everyone to enjoy. The meticulous attention to detail makes you feel like you’ve been transported to a charming village in Scandinavia.
The lobby has a stunning common area with a long table
and there are also comfortable sitting areas.
The room was designed to allow natural light to flood in, which is an element of Scandinavian home design.
Let me show you around my suite.
I stayed in room 11, a 400 sq ft
Hygge Suite
I wish you could smell the delightful aroma of the room. The scent, lighting, and simple elegant décor made me immediately relax and set the stage for my hygge experience.
Suites are designed with a mixture of natural wood and contemporary design to experience the essence of Scandinavian warmth and elegance. The décor and color tones are soft and natural, complimented with large windows to view the simple beauty of nature.
My room had a comfortable king bed and the pillows were amazing. There was a flat-screen tv, a coffeemaker, and a refrigerator to store snacks and beverages. I love that everything was hidden so there was a clean look to the room.
There was also a large wooden table that could be used as a work desk or a dining area.
Thank you so much for the welcome treat. It was delicious!
The room had two corner sliding doors that allowed light to flood the room. Even though you are right near one of the main roads in Conway, the room was so quiet and there was always a sense of peacefulness. Look how lovely the room looks at sunset.
Every suite has a large outdoor terrace to enjoy an outdoor hygge moment. It had two chairs and a small table. I loved sitting out there in the afternoon while I read my book.
I also loved the sitting area in the room. It was a nice place to relax, have an afternoon coffee, and continue to read my book after it got chilly outside.
Check out this fabulous bathroom
My bathroom was large and had an amazing rainfall shower. There were double vanities, wood floors, a large mirror, and luxurious bathrobes.
But let’s talk about this shower! The shower spa was honestly one of the most amazing ones I’ve ever used. I immediately called my husband and told him we NEED this in our house.
As much as I loved my room, I couldn’t wait to get some pampering. Scandinavians balance life through spa experiences and take time out for their wellbeing. Whether it be for an hour, or the day, put everything else on hold and enjoy a spa excursion. Villa Hygge’s rejuvenating spa services are intended to calm both your body and mind, while providing vital insight into how you can incorporate hygge into your wellness.
First stop was the Himalayan Salt Lounge
The salt lounge was heavenly. I was in complete bliss as I lied back in the curved loungers while covered in a luxurious blanket. There was dim lighting all around me except for the flickering candles placed around the room and the illuminated salt wall. Relaxing spa music played in the background as I enjoyed the best feature of the chair…the massage.
My next stop was an unforgettable treat…
The Nordic Sauna
Sauna is an integral element of Nordic culture. Enjoy their relaxing sauna experience and gain vital insight into the Scandinavian culture and the tranquility of hygge, while leaving the stresses of everyday life behind. Here is where the magic happens.
Unlike other sauna experiences, this one is divided into 3 parts. The cycling of heat and cold are rejuvenating for your body and mind. The first section is a comfortable sitting area.
Next there is a huge shower area with 2 rain showers. Take a cool shower before you enter the next area.
Finally, there is the hot sauna. Need some steam? Just add water.
Alternating between cold water and hot steam is an ideal treatment. Guests can enjoy a complimentary 50-minute Nordic sauna spa experience for every night booked night
The hotel has a modern flair to it by using technology such as non-touch trash cans, non-touch lights, and a tablet that can be used to book spa treatments and order breakfast.
Before heading out for dinner I enjoyed some veggie chips and cheese as I snuggled up on the sheep-skin throws.
After a relaxing day at the hotel, I poured myself a glass of wine and snuggled up with a book on Nordic Style. Since staying at this hotel I’ve wanted to redo my entire house and add a touch of hygge into every room.
I can’t begin to tell you how great I slept. I woke up and was so excited to get breakfast in bed! Isn’t that what we all dream about? I made myself a cup of delicious coffee and enjoyed my tasty treat.
I ordered a yogurt parfait and dried fruit.
How beautiful is their presentation?
I can’t imagine a better way to start my day!
