The Lodge at Spruce Peak
Vermont will always have a piece of my heart since it is where I went to college and also where my husband and I met. It is the place where it all began. As I drove through the towering mountains, fall was just starting to show off its autumn colors, I felt like I was running into an old friend that I didn’t realize I’d missed. Let me tell you all about my perfect solo-getaway!
Stowe is a quaint, picturesque Vermont town, and the Stowe Mountain Lodge was the perfect place to call home for two nights. Walking into the rustic lobby set the tone of casual elegance that the lodge projects.
The lodge offers 300 beautiful guest rooms and suites, ranging from 450 sq. ft. to 1600 sq. ft. so there’s something for everyone. My room was a one-bedroom suite and I immediately felt welcomed as I walked in the door!
The suite had a large living room with a cozy couch and fireplace.
There were sliding doors that opened up to a terrace with a small table and two chairs. The view of Mount Mansfield was so pretty since all the trees were starting to pop with color.
The kitchen had everything you would need to cook a meal in your room. (Although this mom had no intention of cooking while I was here.) There was also an eating area.
The bedroom featured a king size bed with luxurious linens and pillows that were ridiculously soft. Since I have a new puppy that loves to get up early, it was amazing to be able to sleep in one morning! The room had a large dresser and desk area. The curtains did a wonderful job blocking out the light each morning.
My bathroom was enormous with a sunken tub that would be perfect for a bubble bath after a long day of hiking or skiing. It also had a glass enclosed shower with wonderful water pressure.
I had the pleasure of having dinner at Solstice, with Kelly who is the director of PR and social media for the lodge. She is so much fun and we had a great dinner. Solstice is not just a restaurant, it’s an experience. It is rare that a restaurant is both refined and casual. Although it is elegant, it is somewhere I would feel comfortable bringing the kids. They use only local, fresh ingredients and even use organic ingredients whenever possible.
I had the pleasure of dining at the chef’s table, a unique experience of dining at the open kitchen counter. The meal is personalized each night and paired with a selection of wines from their cellar.
I had the most unbelievable 5-course meal.
We started with a Maplebrook Burrata Salad (Garden Tomatoes/Flowering Herbs/Watercress Puree/Charred Corn/Crispy Speck)
Next, we had a Honeynut Squash Agnolotti (Apple Puree/Parmigiano Reggiano/Sage)
Next, there was a Maple-Glazed Vermont Pork Belly (White Cheddar Grits/Grilled Peaches/Pickled Chili)
Next we had a Creekstone Farm Prime NY Strip (Pommes Dauphine/Creamed Spinach/Oyster Mushroom/Green Peppercorn Demi)
Finally, we ended this delicious meal with a Lemon Verbena Rice Pudding (Local Blueberry/Toasted Hazelnut/Pie Crust)
The food is not the only thing that made the night unforgettable. Every person I met was so kind and welcoming that our night was filled with laughs. It was great to make connections of people we both knew and even rival high schools. It’s such a small world.
After a fun night I crashed in my cozy bed and finally got to sleep in!
The next morning, I made some coffee in my kitchen since they provide Vermont coffee…my favorite!
After my coffee fix, I had to get moving because I had a busy day ahead of me…AT THE SPA!!! I know…I know…it was a tough day! I headed down at 10:00 and got a lovely tour of the spa facilities.
The Spa and Wellness Center is dedicated to cultivating a relationship between nature and health. This 21,000 square foot facility contains a fitness center, outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, spa sanctuary lounge, a healing lounge, and 18 treatment rooms. I actually spent FIVE luxurious hours here!
My first treatment was a 100-minute Stowe Cider Uber Scrub. It started with a full-body scrub which incorporated Stowe cider and exfoliating ingredients. After the scrub was applied, I was wrapped up like a burrito and placed under some heating lamps while my feet were massaged. I was left alone to take a shower and then back onto the massage table. She hydrated my skin and relaxed my muscles with a 50-minute massage.
Since I had an hour in between treatments, I ordered a delicious burrata salad (yep…just like the one at dinner the night before) and enjoyed it in the Sanctuary Lounge.
To top it all off, I was brought a Stowe cider to enjoy and tie in with my treatment.
Next, I had a relaxing hydra facial. It was soothing and my skin felt polished and tight at the end of the treatment.
I decided to take a break from the spa since the weather was perfect and the foliage was calling to me. The lodge offers a complimentary gondola to the base of the mountain and from there you can take one to the top of Mount Mansfield.
The view from the top was breathtaking.
After taking in the view, I headed over to The Beanery to grab something warm to drink. One of my favorite memories of college in Vermont were the endless cups of Vermont coffee. The beanery lets you get a hot latte, cup of tea, or specialty drink. There are also pastries and baked goods. I had, hands-down, the best matcha latte I’ve ever had. (I even went back the next morning to get another one before I left.)
Next to The Beanery is The Pantry, where you can buy artisan foods, Vermont products and ingredients so you can live like a local. Since the lodge had given me such lovely treats when I arrived, I didn’t need to pick anything up, but it would have been the perfect place to buy some cheese and wine to enjoy back in my room.
By then I was ready to head back to the spa to try out their Healing Suite. Hey…I had no kids with me so I planned on getting as much relaxation and pampering as possible! The Healing Lodge Ritual is based on the healing traditions of hot/cold therapy. It is designed to create balance both physically and emotionally in an environment designed to detoxify, heal, and balance the mind, body, and soul. Sounds like a perfect way to end my day!
First you begin by rinsing off under the cool rain shower to balance your body’s temperature.
Next, you soak in the jacuzzi to increase your body temperature.
Cool down under the rain shower again and then head into the herbal steam room to stimulate your senses and increase your body temperature.
Then you cool down in the rain shower and scrub your body with the Himalayan salts they provide to balance energy and remove the excess toxins from your body. You end your treatment with a relaxing dry sauna and hydrate yourself with the cool water they provide.
There was no way I could be at the Stowe Mountain Lodge without using their amazing heated pool. The temperature of the water is about 85 degrees and the pool was practically empty.
After swimming some laps and soaking in the hot tub I headed back to my room for the night. I had a glass of wine on the terrace as I FaceTimed my family, ordered some room service (a lobster roll), and snuggled in on the cozy couch with a girly movie. It was the perfect day!

A huge thank you to Stowe Mountain Lodge for having me as your guest for two nights. It was the most pampering and relaxation I’ve had in a long time. 5 hours at your spa is something I will not forget and I loved the chef dinner! The staff as well as the casual elegance of the lodge makes it the perfect destination for families. I can’t wait to return with my family during winter!
