New England Aquarium
(Boston, Massachusetts)
As soon as you walk through the doors of the New England Aquarium, you leave the busy streets of Boston and are transported to a world under the sea. Beneath the dim lights you are surrounded by the calls of penguins and the shadows of the large fish swimming in the center tank.
Our favorite animals live outside of the aquarium and even if you choose not to go in, take some time to visit with the adorable Atlantic harbor seals. They are seriously the cutest little guys and they are so curious that they come right up to the tank to peek at you. Look at this sweet face!
Now let me show you around the aquarium.
On the first floor, the penguins take center stage. They have both African penguins
As well as Rockhopper penguins. It is so fun to see them swim and wobble around.
The clown fish are special to my kiddos because when they were little and their fish died while they were at school, I told them the fish had wanted to go live in the aquarium…lol…lie. Funny thing is once when we were visiting, they said, “Look, it’s our fish!” Their fish was actually a goldfish but they were convinced it was theirs.
Here are some of our favorites:
We love Myrtle and always look for her. She’s lived at the aquarium since 1970 and is more than 90 years old. She weighs more than 500 lbs.
The New England Aquarium’s New Balance Foundation Marine Mammal Center is home to four California sea lions as well as four northern fur seals.
In the Trust Family Foundation Shark and Ray Touch Tank you can touch cownose rays, Atlantic rays, and epaulette sharks.
