New Year’s Blog: Top 10 Resolutions

new-year-resolution

I’ve got to say that as a new blogger, this last week has been the most intimidating yet.  It seems that at this time of year many bloggers choose to show you their best work of the year…and all I can say is WOW!  I’ve loved reading about the top 10 destinations people traveled to (Many that I cannot even pronounce) or the best adventures people have taken (The pictures alone have left me speechless)! There are so many amazing bloggers out there and I’ve been soaking it all in to learn from the best.  This isn’t something you can have as a major in college so your education comes from those around you that have been doing it for years.

One common post I’ve been reading is that this is the time of year to reassess your goals for your blog.  It is time to look at what is working and what needs to change.  One way many people are doing that is through Blog New Year’s Resolutions.  So here we go…my top 10 for 2016.

  1. Blog more.  I need to write, write, write.  One blogger said she writes at least one sentence a day just to keep the creative juices flowing. Not every blog is going to be great, but at least I’ll give it my best shot.
  2. Develop a schedule.  Many bloggers suggest having a predictable schedule so your readers know when to expect new work.  It also seems to help keep you on track for the week.  So my first step will be to create a schedule that works for me for blogging and social media.
  3. Post daily on Instagram.  Who knew what a great tool Instagram could be?  Not only is it a way to gain readers, but looking at other people’s accounts is so inspiring.
  4. Create more Pinterest pictures.  Although this is pretty time-consuming, I’ve got to get back in the habit of creating those vertical pins with titles.  I’m currently using PicMonkey but am open to suggestions.
  5. Look for more Facebook groups for bloggers.  My groups have been a lifesaver! I’ve gotten so much positive feedback and wonderful suggestions from some great bloggers.  I’ve also seen some great posts from people outside of my niche.
  6. Post more often to my Facebook page.  I must say I tend to neglect this social gem a bit more than I ought to.
  7. Twitter…I feel like a 90-year-old woman admitting this but I have no idea how to use Twitter. Time to get off my rocking chair and figure it out!
  8. Fix my ads.  They are driving me crazy!  They don’t look the way I want them to (They don’t fit the boxes), I need more of them on my front page, and something’s not working right because Google AdSense said there was no activity in December even though it was my best month yet.  Ggggrrrrr…how frustrating!
  9. Fix the little things that have been bugging me.  I need to tweak some menus, center some pictures, and add some things to my main page.
  10. STAY MOTIVATED! Blogging is hard work with little payoff (And this is coming from an ex teacher!) I’ve got to remind myself why I started doing this and where I want to go with it.  So far it’s been a fun ride!

Have a great start to 2016!

What are your resolutions for 2016? I’d also love any helpful hints on how to keep up mine!

The blog ones were easy…the personal ones I’ve got to narrow down! It’s quite a list!

Best of luck sticking to your resolutions this year. They all sound totally doable, so I am sure you will have no problems.

  2. You’ve made some great resolutions and I wish I was a resolution maker but sadly I’m not. I actually make a resolution to not make any resolutions. Is that a resolution? :). I think I’ll just share yours this year.

I love to make resolutions. Hopefully they will be easier to keep than getting to the gym 🙂

It’s so hard to do all the social media stuff all the time. I find I don’t do much on Facebook and I know that would be a good tool.

BLogging wise I have a number of the same ones as you do. I need to be more consistent in creating content on a schedule and sharing it as well as using Instagram more organically tied to blog posts. Personally, I am continuing on my fitness journey and concentrating on being a more confident figure bodybuilder this year.

I applaud you on that! My goal was to get back to the gym too but a horrible head cold has kept me away from the gym for 2 days. I’m back there tomorrow…head cold or not!

Yep, definitely develop a schedule! I think that’s what I’m lacking at the moment. I still have the Holiday hangover and my body is feeling it too! Lol.

I have the same resolution as yours in terms of online activities! Awesome. Hope we can make it happen soon!

  6. Great resolutions! Scheduling is so important. I get way more done if I have a list and I specifically set time aside for each task. Otherwise I get pulled in too many directions and nothing gets done.

Having a specific time of when you’ll do things is a great idea. You’re right…it is so easy to get pulled into a different direction.

  7. I think these are great goals! I just started using Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram on a consistent basis last year. It’s made a huge difference both on my blog and social media engagement. I even signed up for LinkedIn and BlogLovin’ too. My goal this year is to try to post daily to Pinterest and Twitter. I also created a Facebook page and decided to start posting multiple times daily to it. Twitter has about 232 million users and Pinterest has about 70 million. Facebook has 1.55 billion users for perspective. I would definitely not neglect your Facebook page!

I try to fix menu items, links, and pictures about once every week or two. Also a good idea to have all your social media account profile pictures and background pictures match. It builds a sense of unity linking back to your blog and emphasizes your brand.

Also consider scheduling your posts. I use a program called Buffer Awesome. You should check into it. It allows you to schedule all your posts, pictures, and videos. It’s been a life saver for me! Best wishes to you in 2016. Happy new year!

Thanks so much Jonathan for all those wonderful tips. I don’t know what to explore first! Your facts about Facebook just made me realize that I definitely should not neglect it. And matching up all your pictures on social media is another great tip.
I’ve read about scheduling posts but I never gave it much thought. If you say it’s a life saver then it is the first thing I’m going to look into. Thanks so much! Have a happy new year!!

  8. Happy New Year!
Those are awesome list for your blog. I really need to come up with a schedule too and blog more. Last year has been crazy and I haven’t been able to post as often as I wish.
Wishing you the best bloggy year in 2016.

It’s so important to focus on yourself…especially the “be happier” part! Happy New Year!
