When I think of Maine certain images pop into my head…lighthouse, beach, moose, and lobster…or LOBSTAH as my New England friends say! Maine has the most amazing coastline so we decided to start our day out on the water and what a better place to do it than on an actual lobster boat!
Mackworth Island…Our Little Secret in Maine
Mackworth Island…Our Little Secret in Maine
I can’t believe I’m sharing this place because it is one of our favorite secrets in Maine. My daughter didn’t want me to share it. Her exact words were, “Mom…It’s like sharing where Smurf Village is. You don’t want everyone to know!” It is one of those places that you go to escape all the craziness of life and just BE… be part of nature, be surrounded by views, and be in the moment. Mackworth Island is about 100 acres and is connected to Falmouth, Maine by a causeway. The island is home to Governor Baxter School for the Deaf but you are not allowed to go on the campus. There are two main things that draw you here…nature and fairies.
Liberty Hotel, Boston…Don’t Bail Me Out
Who would have guessed that prison could be so romantic? If you stay at only one hotel in Boston it has to be The Liberty Hotel. It is such a unique experience with spacious rooms and 5 restaurants/bars. This hotel stands where the Charles Street Jail once stood and they have played on that to give you a taste of Boston’s history.
Picking the Right Island Destination for your Family
So you’ve decided to take an island vacation with your family. Now what? There are still lots of places you could go and now you’ll need to decide which island is best for you. This is where it takes some investigation. I am a visual person so I like to see the beauty of the different islands. I like to visit sites such as Pinterest and Google Images and I ooohhh and aaahhh over all of the gorgeous beaches and landscapes. So which one will be your vacation? Here is how I go about picking the right island destination for your family.
Planning Your Family Vacation
One of the hardest parts of planning a trip is deciding where you want to go. Let’s face it, this is a make it or break it decision. Sometimes the “Wouldn’t it be cool…” vacations do not end up being the right fit for your family. Or a vacation that the Smith family loved ends up being the worst possible vacation for yours. With such small amounts of travel time we allow ourselves and the fact that no trees around my house are sprouting money, each vacation has to count.
So you know you want to take a trip and you know you want to take it at a certain time, now where do you even begin to start the planning process? It’s all in the questions…
