Review of Cooper and Kid…a Dad and Kid Craft Box

I love watching my husband making things with our daughters. It is such a special time and they have so much fun making memories with him.  It’s a great time to teach them life skills while bonding with them.  Since we have been practicing social isolation for the past few months, there has been plenty of daddy-daughter time.  We were so grateful that Cooper and Kid sent us two amazing kits to try out!  And it’s not just made for dads…I plan on getting in on some of the fun as well because these kits can be used by any adult and kid.

What do I love about Cooper and Kid?

Cooper and Kid is a monthly subscription box, but since most of the world is in social isolation, they have decided to do Coronavirus School Closing Relief Packages.  This special limited-time offer features discounted kits that are available immediately.  They arrive at your door about 3 days later and there is no further obligation to buy anything else.  I love that these kits help build creativity, character development, and promote problem solving.  However, mostly I love that it builds relationships and creates lasting memories.

WARNING…THESES REVIEWS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!!

What kits did we get?

Our first kit was MACHINES IN MOTION

(Build things, launch things, put them all together to make a Rube Goldberg Machine.  Learn about simplicity vs. complexity.)

Building projects:

The Wheels of Dessert go Round and Round: This one was our favorite.  This project allowed us to create a Ferris wheel music box.

The Rube Goldberg Machine: The final activity was to use all of the previous ones to put them all together and create a Rube Goldberg Machine.

Catapult to the Stars: Create a long-distance mouse launcher.  Mice are included 😊

Ride the Cable Car: Using a pulley wheel, make your cable car go down a zipline.

Train that Cow to Moooove: Create a train and experiment with ramps at different heights.

Bedtime storybook:  Those Darn Squirrels. (This was one of our favorite books when the girls were younger.)

Themed cookbook:

Ham & Veggie Cheese Wedges (appetizer)

Pulley Pasta (entrée)

Black Cow (drink)

Chocolate Mous(s)e Pie (dessert)

Shipping box upcycles into supplies for projects:  Use the box to create your cable car as well as your train.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!! Check out our trophy!

Our second kit was PIECE OUT

(Build a hippie robot with recycled materials, help him live off the land and ultimately find his groove.  Learn about ideals and making changes in your community.)

Building projects:

Build a Robot: They even give you a glue gun and glue sticks!

Converting to Solar: Create a circuit that works on solar power with the Stellar Solar Panel Conversion Kit.

Robot fan: They give you everything you need to make the fan, including forks and spoons to use for their arms and legs.  They also give you an all-in-one fan conversion kit.

Hippie Headbands.  They give you t-shirts to cut up.  We saved the extra fabric to use on more crafts.

Bedtime storybook:  After reading this poetry book, you can cut it up and create stickers with the pages.  This is a fun way to recycle a book.  I’ve got to admit… felt a little bad cutting up a book that was published in 1939. They even teach you how to make the glue for your stickers!

Themed cookbook: Learn how to make:

Rusty Nail Mocktail (a butterscotch drink)

Bag of Bolts and Nuts (trail mix)

Leftover Tetrazzini (pasta dish)

Pain Perdu (French toast)

Shipping box upcycles:  The box becomes a recycling sorter, which is a life-skill that’s great to teach kids.

What else do I love about these kits?

I love that for each project they give a rating of how difficult it is to make.

Their activity guides are professional, good quality and extremely detailed.  Very impressive!

I also love that they include digital resources to extend your fun.

I also love that each box contains a Legacy Medallion, so you can keep track of all the projects you’ve done together.  It reminded me of when my girls would earn badges in Girl Scouts.
