Spice Madam

When you have teenagers, it gets harder and harder to find things you can do together.  One of the things I most love to do is get the girls in the kitchen with me.  We love trying new dishes while we’re traveling and we’ve had fun experimenting with cooking new ones this last year.  I love trying exotic meals but some ingredients can be both hard to find and intimidating. Spice Madam gives you the spices you’ll need to make a meal from a specific country around the world. It is the perfect way to spend a night at home!

WHY TRAVELERS WILL LOVE SPICE MADAM

One of my favorite things about this box is it gives you a link to music from the country.  Throw it on as you’re cooking or eating to set the mood.

I also like that they tell you how difficult each recipe is.  The chef hats in the upper right corner of the recipe card indicate a skill level from 1 chef hat (easy) 2 chef hats (medium) to 3 chef hats (harder). They encourage you to challenge yourself.

Finally, you know I love a company that gives back.  Every box of Spice Madame sold supports a non-profit that impacts youth education.

WHAT COMES IN EACH BOX?

You receive a curated box of global spices, recipes, music and fun facts to explore, discover & experience a different destination every month.

WHAT COUNTRY DID WE GET?

Tunisia

We had 4 aromatic spice blends in our box:

Tunisia Spice Blend, Tabil Spice Blend, Tunisian Mint, Harissa

For our appetizer we made Slata Mechouia, a bruschetta-like app that has a lovely mix of bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes.  The boiled egg on top makes it an unexpected treat.

For our main course we made Marget Jelbana, a lamb stew with vegetables. It was warm and comforting on a cold New England night.

For our side we made the Tunisian Spinach Rice. The mixture of tomatoes, spinach, onion, and carrots made the rice one of the best we’ve tasted.

We were also given a recipe for Lablabi, a chickpea soup but we haven’t made it yet. We will probably make it to have as a lunch.

For Easter, we will be making the Tunisian Orange Cake. We are trying to eat healthy and don’t want to have too many leftovers so we will be making ours in ramakin bowls. The glaze sounds delicious and the pistachios will give it a nice crunch.

You know I’m a huge tea lover, so I really enjoyed the Tunisian Mint Tea.  I did leave out the pine nuts because I didn’t have any and I used honey because I’m trying to use only natural sweeteners.  It was delicious and the perfect way to take a break in the middle of the afternoon.

EDUCATIONAL…BUT DON’T TELL THE KIDS!

The box includes cards that tell all about this North African country.  They will learn about the language, geography, flag, and culture.

WHAT DOES SPICE MADAM COST?

$20 per month
