GROTTO BAY BEACH RESORT

GROTTO BAY BEACH RESORT

Where do you fly in?

The best place to fly in is  L. F. Wade International Airport (BDA), also known as Bermuda Wade Airport.

Check-in had it’s problems

When I booked our room I put us in a room with 2 double beds on the ground floor, but when we got there we found out the resort had “upgraded” us to a room on a higher floor with a better view. We loved this and were so thankful they did it.  Unfortunately, our girls were not doing well being confined to a room and the hotel was wonderful at accommodating our request for possibly moving to a ground floor room since they had sliders. Luckily, the next day the hotel was able to make this happen.  This was great because we could open the slider and the girls could play in what they called “our backyard.”  We all had space, the bickering ended, and we were ready to enjoy this vacation.

The Grounds

The hotel was a lovely, fun, family hotel. The grounds were colorful with their blooming flowers and views of the sea.  Stone pathways with walls of fragrant flowers led us down to our room. There are many areas to get away from crowds and relax. The pool was a nice size and had a swim up bar. The girls loved getting fruit smoothies each afternoon.

The Beach

The beach had white powdered sand and plenty of seating.  My family does not like crowded beaches and this beach was just right. There was also an area that was away from the main beach that was even less crowded. The snorkeling right off the beach was very nice. It was my children’s first experience with snorkeling and they were so excited to be able to see colorful fish and even brain coral.  Several times a day the hotel brings food out to feed the fish and it is neat to be out in the water at that time.

The Cave

Our all-time favorite part of this hotel is the cave. You walk down the damp dimly lit cave and are immediately transported into another world. It is dark except for the lights that illuminate the stalagmites on the ceiling and the light outlining the pathways. Inside there is emerald colored water that has a set of stairs leading you to it. Swimming in a cave just happens to be on my Bucket List and I convinced my while family to go in with me (including my husband who loved water but was a bit jumpy thinking something was going to creep up on him).  We were the only ones in there as we swam and it was an experience I won’t forget.
