Caribe Hilton
San Juan, Puerto Rico
I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that my favorite travel conference, Women in Travel Summit, would be held on the gorgeous island of Puerto Rico! I was counting down the days until I could sink my toes in the sand and have a cocktail in my hand! The Caribe Hilton San Juan was the perfect hotel to meet up with 600 other women traveler creators.
First impression
Set on a tropical 17-acre peninsula, there is ample opportunities for fun or relaxation at this resort. They reopened their doors in 2019 after a two-year restoration following the destruction of Hurricane Maria and the hotel is better than ever.
First off, let me introduce you to the cutest members of the hotel. Pancho and Lola are blue and gold macaws. They love to welcome everyone to the hotel. When you see them make sure you say “Hola!”
Let me show you around my room/suite.
I stayed in a
Beach Wing: King Bed
The room had plenty of wall to floor windows that flooded the room with natural light. Every day I loved walking into the room and immediately seeing the water. (I’m going to make you wait to see this gorgeous view!)
My room had a comfortable king bed and the pillows were amazing. There was a large flat-screen tv, a Keurig coffeemaker, and an ironing board and iron. The room was decorated in simple hues of green and blue to match the view.
The room had a refrigerator so you can store snacks and beverages.
My bathroom was large and had an amazing shower. It had lots of water pressure and the shower was so spacious.
Unforgettable sunrises!
One of the most memorable things about my room were the incredible sunrises each morning! The room would be flooded with a golden light and I could watch the sunrise right from my bed.
Ok…finally…the balcony
Ok…the moments you’ve been waiting for…the VIEW! To my right side was the city
as well as a beautiful aerial view of San Geronimo Fort.
To the left was a beautiful view of the beach.
I love that the balcony had 2 chairs and a small table. It was the perfect place to sit in the morning and have a cup of coffee and a fabulous spot to have a glass of wine at night.
I loved going out on the balcony each night to look at San Juan sparkling in the twilight.
As much as I loved my room, I couldn’t wait to explore the grounds. Let me show you around.
First stop…the pool
Cool off with a refreshing swim in their stunning ocean view pool. Ok…can we talk about how gorgeous this pool is? I loved that it had different sections so you never felt crowded.
My favorite was the infinity pool.
Right below that is another large pool area.
There is even a baby pool for little kids to enjoy.
There is also a swim-up bar that serves fantastic frozen drinks. (And I’m sure they serve non-alcoholic drinks but I didn’t partake in those.)
Finally, there are two hot tubs that you can relax in.
You’ve got to see this beach
Their secluded beach is a good size and is shaped like a horseshoe so there are different views throughout.
The golden sand feels great on your toes and it is not rocky at all when walking into the water.
Lie back and enjoy the amazing views.
Feel like sunbathing? Head over to La Islita sundeck and float on the ocean while staying dry and sand-free on their circular sundeck as you soak up the rays.
The only bummer about the beach is the hotel is not set directly on a large beach so if you like to get up early and go on long walks on the beach, you can’t do that right from this hotel.
Let me show you some more lovely spots on the grounds
From the hotel, you can see 2 old forts. The first, Fortín de San Jerónimo del Boquerón, is not accessible but it is beautiful to look at.
The second, Fortín del Escambrón, is a short 5-minute walk from the hotel. The security officer told me that for safety reasons I should only go there during the day. I went there on a Sunday morning and felt completely safe.
The best place to relax is the shaded hammock garden when you need a break from the sun.
There are lots of walking paths around the hotel. It’s perfect for a relaxing stroll, and you’ll also find chairs here to sit and just watch the ocean.
Enjoy a stroll through the tropical gardens and bird sanctuary,
viewing the koi pond, turtles, ducks, and swans.
and the colorful pineapple mural painted by local artist David Zayas to celebrate the birthplace of the pina colada.
All around the hotel you’ll find fun spots to entertain yourself.
So close to Old San Juan!
I love that the hotel is about a 7-minute Uber ride to Old San Juan. There is so much to do in the area…forts, restaurants, boutiques, bars, museums, beaches, and so much history.
Have a Piña Colada
In 1954, bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero created the Piña Colada, and it quickly became an international favorite. Ok…so there is another bar in Old San Juan, Barrachina, that also claims to have invented it but it’s a delicious dispute. You may want to sample both…lol.
The hotel has several great restaurants on site
Morton’s Steakhouse
Morton’s The Steakhouse in San Juan is the perfect match to the city’s rich history and the hotel’s secluded beach front features. From the bar to the main dining area guests can relax at Morton’s with breathtaking ocean views.
Lola’s Puerto Rican Cuisine
Enjoy local Puerto Rican food in a tropical atmosphere. Lola’s Puerto Rican Cuisine serves traditional plates such as mofongo filled with shrimp, skirt steak, and fried pork accompanied by arañitas, arroz mamposteado, and other classic sides.
Caribar
Panaramic ocean views both inside and along the outdoor terrace.
Bagua
Have a yummy cocktail at this swim-up bar. Cool off under shady palm trees and umbrellas with casual dining offerings and endless ocean views.
Mojito’s Caribbean Fusion
This pretty restaurant is inspired by the tropical ambiance of the island. Enjoy culinary fusions of Spanish and local flavors with fresh farm-to-table herbs. I had a delicious salmon and avacado toast here.
Nectare del Caribe
If you’re a breakfast person, enjoy your meal overlooking the crystal blue Atlantic Ocean. Buffet and a la carte selections are available.
Rustica Ristorante
Serving Northern Italian cuisine with more than a dozen types of pasta, fresh antipasto prepared daily, seafood and a variety of wines from famous vineyards from around the world.
Ice Cream and Cookie Co
If you’re craving sugar run here for ice cream, gourmet cookies, acai bowls, smoothies, coffee and variety sandwiches.
Starbucks
Having a Starbucks right in the lobby of the hotel is a great way to start your day.

Who would I recommend it to?
Families, girl’s getaways, solo travelers, couples. It really is a hotel that caters to everyone.
Tips for Planning your Stay
During weekends the resort has lots to do. There are morning yoga classes, aqua aerobics, Spanish lessons, dance lessons, and more.
Warning for early risers: You can not go into the pool area/beach area/walking paths/etc before 7:00 am. Not even to walk. They have someone at the door and will not let you through. As an early riser, it was disappointing.
The hotel has tennis courts you can reserve.
Next to the fitness center is the Zen Spa Océano. In addition to traditional massages and beauty services (including a hair salon), the spa also has a hydrotherapy room, a sauna, a steam room, outdoor heated whirlpools, and a relaxation lounge.
Parking: There is ample complimentary on-site parking.
Check-in: 4:00 Check-out: 11:00
Room choice? I would definitely get a room with a water view. There are parts of the hotel below the Beach Wing on either side, you’ll be looking over the rooftop of some hotel areas. The higher up you go though, the less obstructed your view will be.
The Wi-Fi worked really well and we never had any problems with it.
They are currently offering house cleaning services.
There is a 24-hour front desk.
