Oyster Bay Beach Resort
Saint Martin
There’s nothing crazier than the weeks leading up to the holidays, so there’s no better time to get away for a long weekend before the hectic season starts. I actually had a credit to the resort which they allowed me to apply to our stay, so my friend and I packed our bags, hopped on a flight from Boston, left New England behind, and headed to the Caribbean.
We left New Hampshire in bitter cold, so we were thrilled to feel the sun on our faces and smell the salt water in the air. After getting a cab from the airport, we headed over to the Oyster Bay Beach Resort, on the Dutch side of the island, right near the border. The resort was decorated for Christmas and the lobby was filled with holiday decorations. It’s always fun to hear Bob Marley playing while staring at a Christmas tree.
The gardens around the resort were bursting with colorful blooming flowers.
And there were some historic spots as well.
Let me show you around our 1800 square foot condo. We stayed in condo 5A, a
Lighthouse 3 Bedroom Condo
The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into the room is how enormous it is! You will feel like you’re in an apartment. The living room had plenty of wall to floor windows that flooded the room with natural light. There was a huge couch, sitting areas, huge coffee table, and plenty of lamps.
However, we barely noticed any of this because we were too distracted by the VIEW!
We were pleasantly surprised to see the condo had 2 master suites. The first suite had a comfortable king bed and the pillows were amazing. There was plenty of closet space and drawers as well as a tv.
The room had a sliding glass door that opened up to this breathtaking view! There was a table and chairs set up and it was a great place to drink our coffee or have wine in the afternoon. I like that you can access this terrace through the living room so people don’t have to walk through your bedroom.
The bathroom had the most beautiful bathtub I’ve ever seen! Imaging taking a bubble bath while enjoying this view!
The second master was similar to the first.
Except its terrace had 2 chaise loungers. This was the perfect place to read a magazine or book.
There was one final bedroom that we didn’t use.
Its bathroom did not have a tub and could be accessed from the hallway. It had another stunning view.
There was also a dining area that would be perfect for stay-at-home-meals.
The kitchen had everything you could need to make a delicious meal. It had all the comforts of home including a coffee maker, Britta water pitcher, cheese platters, wine glasses, etc.
We were exhausted after our early morning flight, but we couldn’t wait to get outside.
Since we arrived in the late afternoon, we decided to decided to head to the Veranda Bistro and Market to load up on water, wine, and cheese…you know…the necessities! The market had everything you could want for making breakfast in your room.
We had a peek at the beach and saw the seaweed we had read about before we came. They do a great job getting it off the sand, but because of the storms they recently had we would not be swimming on our beach. It would still be nice to sit on and build some sand castles if the kids were with me.
We decided to head to the pool area to have some lunch. We had delicious mahi sandwiches. They were fresh and you could not beat the view!
Before heading back to the room, we decided to head to the hotel bar for our first Caribbean cocktail!
Why we loved the Lighthouse Building
One of the best perks of staying in the Lighthouse building is it is part of the resort but it feels like its own small, private community. You need a code to get into that side of the property so you feel very safe.
Also, our favorite feature of the Lighthouse were the rooftop extras. The building has it’s own plunge pool, hot top, and gym. Most of the times when we were up there we were completely alone! Since it was our first night, we decided to go up to the rooftop, enjoy some wine, look out at St. Barts in the distance,
And watch the sunset. The rooftop offers 360-degree views of the island.
The views of the resort at night were breathtaking!
For dinner we walked over to Big Fish (5 minutes away) and had the most amazing meal!
Day 2…Day at the Resort
We spent most of our first day hanging out on our rooftop. There was no one else there so we felt like it was our private oasis. We alternated between reading on the comfy chaise loungers to taking a swim in the stunning infinity pool. I know…rough morning.
For lunch we decided to head down to the Veranda Bistro for a delicious salad. It is located right on the water with beautiful views of the beach.
The resort offers a fun Happy Hour each day from 4:00- 6:00. Everyone ends up by the bar taking advantage of their 2-for-1 drink specials. Since we were there during the World Cup, it was always a fun time at the bar.
Dinner was outside at the resort restaurant, Infinity. We had the most amazing meal and they had a great wine selection.
Day 3…Kontiki Beach
When I’m on vacation, I love to get up early to watch the sunrise and the sunrise from our condo did not disappoint!
You could even enjoy a soak in your tub as the sun creeps up.
Then, it was off to the rooftop to hit the gym to work off some of the delicious cocktails from the night before. The gym has all the weights and machines you would need for a good workout.
We decided to head to Kontiki Beach bar on the other side of the island. It is a fun beach bar with a restaurant, plenty of chaise loungers you can rent, and a fun bar.
Just look at these seats!
It was a great place to spend the afternoon and when we were ready to go, we simply called the resort and they sent someone right over to get us.
When we got back to the resort we grabbed a cocktail from the bar, headed to the roof, and enjoyed the view from the hot tub.
I can’t get over the stunning views at night.
Day 4… Infinity Pool and then time to fly home
We booked a late flight so we could get the most time in this lovely piece of heaven. I started my day off with another gorgeous sunrise. The sky looked like it was on fire.
Next, we decided to go for a walk on the beach. It was lovely that morning and the sand felt like powder on our feet.
On our way back we found this fun spot that we didn’t even know was there!
We spent the rest of our morning lounging by the main infinity pool. This breathtaking infinity pool has an unforgettable view!
The best activity of the pool is to look over the edge and watch the reef and the nautical traffic go in and out of Oyster. It’s no wonder it was named by Travel & Leisure as one of the top five pools in the Caribbean.
Look at this cutey that came to say hello.
What are some thing you can do at the resort?
They offer daily activities like dance classes, beer pong, yoga, and bingo. One day we saw they had a market there selling local crafts and artwork.
Karaoke Night seemed to be a guest favorite and we enjoyed watching as we sipped on a cocktail and waited for our table at the restaurant. Their Sunday Brunch also looked delicious.

Where do you fly in to?
Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). The resort is a 6-minute ride from the airport.

Who would I recommend it to?
Although kids would be welcomed here, I don’t think it would be the resort I’d choose if I were with them. I think teens might get bored and kids might be too loud for the crowd that stays here. It would be perfect for a couple’s getaway, a solo trip, or a girls’ getaway (when you are looking for something laid back and not wild.)
Overall Impression
The hotel was stunning and the staff were all so nice. If you are looking for a quiet place where you can relax, this is great. However, if you are looking for nightlife, lots of restaurants, long beaches to walk, and nearby casinos, then this may not be the place for you. It was perfect for a long weekend with my friend, but I wouldn’t choose this resort for a week-long stay with my family.
Tips for Planning your Stay
Parking: There is ample complimentary on-site parking.
Check-in: 4:00 Check-out: 11:00
Restaurants: Besides the ones at the resort, there is only 1 other restaurant within walking distance.
Room choice? I would definitely get a room at the Lighthouse building. If you have 2-3 couples staying there it would not be expensive at all.
Security: There were lots of security guards walking around the resort, especially at night. We always felt completely safe.
They are currently offering house cleaning services.
There is a 24-hour front desk.
The Wi-Fi worked really well and we never had any problems with it.
You can get Pre-Arrival Grocery Service through the marketplace. The resort will send you a list of items you can order.
