In April, I had the privilege of attending a FAM trip to Freeport, Maine with six other travel writers. I headed to the Portland train station to meet six strangers and spend two days traveling with them. This could have gone completely bad, but it ended up being such an amazing experience with six fabulous women and I being spoiled rotten in the gorgeous town of Freeport.
One of my favorite experiences was a trip to Wolfe Neck Center for Agriculture & the Environment. I’ve been going to Freeport for years and I can’t believe this hidden gem was right around the corner from my husband’s grandmother’s home that we would stay in. Wolfe Neck is a nonprofit farm with 626 oceanfront acres and 4 miles of Casco Bay shoreline that is open to the public every day. Although it is only a 10-minute drive from downtown, you’ll feel like you are miles from civilization. It is an amazing place to bring your family and visit the animals, have a picnic lunch, rent kayaks, go for a bike ride or take a hike.
A huge thank you to Andrew, who took the time out of his busy day to show us around the farm. He was so knowledgeable about the animals and the ins-and-outs of the working parts of the farm. We started our day meeting the adorable animals in the barns…chicks, cows, sheep, goats, pigs…each one cuter than the next! Just look at how sweet they are! The animals are used to educate the public. You can even hike some trails with goats…where else can you do that?
I wanted to take this little gal home with me!
They are a working farm, and actually, the milk from these cows goes to making Stonyfield yogurt…our favorite!
Our next treat was a tour of the property with Matt, who’s family has owned the farm for generations. He is so proud of his family’s farm and loves to share stories of growing up there. Although the farm has many traditions, it is constantly evolving. I can see why he would want to stay…you couldn’t get me to leave either. Look at how beautiful the views are!
And the views of Casco Bay are stunning as well!
One of the fun things you can do here is camping. They have a large selection of campsites including fabulous ones that are right on the ocean!

A warm thank you to everyone at Wolfe Neck center for Agriculture & the Environment for showing us a wonderful morning at the farm. I can hardly wait to bring my girls there the next time we’re in Freeport. They are going to flip over those adorable animals! I see a camping trip in our future!
