The start of the school year has gone off with a bang…theater rehearsals, soccer practice, homework, tests, and even a fractured foot for one of my kiddos. October was looking to be even more crazy, so I was thrilled to head to Vermont for a little relaxation. My tires practically burned as a sped off with my music blasting for my three-hour drive to one of my favorite states. I love autumn in New England and was thrilled to see that the leaves were just starting their dazzling display of colors.
Let me show you how to spend 2 perfect days in Stowe, Vermont…
Day 1: (Mine was a Sunday)
Your first stop is to Cold Hollow Cider Mill. There is an explosion on your senses as you walk through the door. There are so many locally-made products that you won’t know where to look first. I loved that they have a beehive there enclosed in glass (pic) and you can actually buy honey that is produced by these bees. I can’t wait to taste some.
Since it is a cider mill, you have to taste their warm cider donuts. What? It’s not like you have a choice…lol! Head on over to their Apple Core Luncheonette and Brew. Try the “Vermont To the Core” (bacon, apple slices, cheddar and apple jelly) and a glass of their hard cider, Barn Dance. (You may want to pick up some cans or a growler to bring home!)
If you’re lucky enough to be there on a Sunday, drive to the Stowe Farmer’s Market that takes place from 10:30-3:00. Everything is made local…soap, dips, cheese, wooden trays, pottery, wine, honey, jewelry…endless! There is even live music.
If it is not a Sunday, spend a few hours riding your bike on the rec path, where you’ll be surrounded by nature and some breathtaking views.
Now it’s time to go across the street to check into the gorgeous Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa. Fireplaces, meditation labyrinth, waterfall in the spa… You’ve got to see this place!
(Read all about my stay here!)
At the hotel, go for a swim in the outdoor pool, do laps in the indoor pool, or take a soak in the outdoor Jacuzzi.
After a day of driving, have dinner at Charlie B’s, in the resort.
It now time to settle back to your room with a glass of wine and a good book for the night. (Request a room with a fireplace!)
Monday
Time for some pampering. Your first stop for the day is the spa at Stoweflake. Treat yourself to one of 120 treatments they offer. After your massage, spend a few hours in their sanctuary enjoying their hydrotherapy massaging waterfall, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi.
Now that you’re completely relaxed, it’s time to go out and do some exploring. If you want the best views in Stowe, take a gondola to the top of Mt. Mansfield, the highest mountain in Vermont.
You will be in awe of the beauty that surrounds you!
Before you do the Stowe shops, head over to Waterbury (Just a 15-minute drive), to experience the Cabot Farmer’s Store. Have plenty of samples and buy some delicious cheese.
Next door is the Lake Champlain Chocolates, has something sweet for everyone. Get a nice selection of chocolates.
Your next stop is Ziemke Glassblowing Studio. There is an observation room where you can watch the ancient art of glassblowing as Glenn Ziemke and his assistant create unique pieces of art.
Stowe has many boutique shops that you can peek into, so drive around and stop at some that look cute.
Museum time! The West Branch Gallery and Sculpture Park has a great gallery that also has an outdoor section.
Right next door is where they produce my all-time favorite hard cider… Stowe Cider. Have a seat at the bar and order a flight. Pick up some cans to bring home!
Some dinner options for tonight can be:
Solstice (Do a chef’s tasting.)
Harrison’s Restaurant & Bar
Cork Wine Bar & Market
Whip Bar & Grill
Idletyme Brewing Company
