10 Tips for a Fun Day at an Amusement Park

Rides at a Amusement park

Amusement parks can be a great way to spend the day as a family.  With a little planning, you can have a stress-free day that everyone can enjoy.  Here are 10 tips for a fun day at an amusement park:

CHECK OUT THE MAP

Before you go, look at the park map online.  Decide if there are areas you all really want to do and if there are areas you can skip. Give the kids a say in the day.

NO PRESSURE

Kids will do scary rides when they are ready.  Let them know there is no pressure for them to go on any rides they don’t feel comfortable with.

 MINIMUM HEIGHT REQUIREMENT

Nothing is worse than having your kid wait in line only to find out they are an inch too short to ride.  Save the tears and have them check the height requirement and measure them before they go.

GAMES OR NO GAMES

Do you really want to spend $20 on a stuffed frog that is actually worth about $2?  We all know it will eventually be placed in the trash when our kids are in school one day. So maybe set a limit of 2-3 games…win or lose.

 WEEKDAYS

Avoid going on weekends if you can.  There are much less crowds during the week which will also mean shorter lines.  It is also a good idea to go early in the morning.

SAFETY

Make sure you take safety precautions: Using your phone, take a picture of them before you walk into the park.  Put your cell phone number in their pocket.  Designate a meeting spot and write it on the same piece of paper as your phone number.  Have your kids wear bright colored clothing. Many parents feel safe with kid trackers for kids, like this one.

SHOP

Even if you don’t actually buy anything, walk around and look at some of the shops. If you’re not planning on buying anything then make that crystal clear before you walk into the store. Save souvenir shopping for when you’re on your way out of the park so you don’t have to lug anything around.

FOOD

Let’s just say it’s not known to be the healthiest.  Try a few treats but you don’t have to try everything. Think the food won’t agree with you child? Bring familiar snacks from home.  Stay hydrated by bringing your own water.

 SCHEDULE OF ENTERTAINMENT

Lots of amusement parks have great shows throughout the day. Check the schedule as soon as you get to the park and plan around those events.  Shows are a great way to have some down time between rides.

MELTDOWN

Enjoy the park but remember you don’t need to experience everything.  Leave before the meltdowns start so it is a good memory for everyone.  Know when to call it a day.
