It is hard to imagine going to Mystic, Connecticut without a visit to the Mystic Aquarium.  It is an amazing place to see sea creatures in indoor and outdoor exhibits.  There are many hands-on activities that will keep you entertained for hours.  You could also take in a sea lion show, watch feedings, or experience a 4-D movie.

Mystic Seaport

It is easy to be overwhelmed when you walk into Mystic Seaport because there is so much to see and do in this 19th century seafaring village.  As you walk through this town you are transported back in time.  The village is made up of dozens of buildings that are staffed with people playing the roles of wood carvers, shipsmiths, coopers, printers, and many more.  They are so knowledgeable and they encourage you to ask questions and participation.  Some of our favorite areas included:

As soon as we walked into the Hilton Mystic we felt the nautical atmosphere all around us.  From the port hole mirrors to the water cascading down the panels of the walls, there’s no mistaking the charm of maritime New England.  When we checked in we were given a choice to what floor we wanted to stay on.  When we said we had no preference they suggested if we were planning on using the pool we could stay in that wing.  We ended up loving that location because there is nothing worse than riding up in a cold elevator after swimming.

Why You Should Leave Your Resort When on Vacation

Although it is so much fun to lie around the pool or beach at your resort, I find it so disheartening when I hear someone say they didn’t leave the property.  When you are at an all-inclusive resort, the urge to stay on property may keep you from experiencing some memory-making moments.  So what could possibly be gained by leaving the resort?

McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center

In Concord, NH there is a great place that is a tribute to 2 New Hampshire space pioneers: Alan Shepard, America’s first astronaut to travel into space, and NASA’s teacher-in-space, Christa McAuliffe.  This small discovery center is filled with many hands-on activities that teach families about space.  It is a fun place to spend a few hours.  A few of our favorite experiences included:
