How to Feel at Home while Traveling

One reason people sometimes give about why they don’t like to travel is because they hate the feeling of being away from home.  Traveling is about the unknown, and that makes some people uncomfortable.  The trick is to bring a piece of home to you…wherever you are.  Here are 10 tips that may help you cure your cause of homesickness:

1.     STICK TO YOUR ROUTINE.  If you work out every morning then you should head to the fitness room.  If you have a bedtime ritual, don’t’ let being in a hotel stop you.  Bring your face wash and makeup removal, read a book, and make some of your favorite herbal tea.

Cape Codder Resort and Spa

At times I like to travel with just one of my daughters so we can spend some quality one-on-one time together.  Recently, I was so pleased to be able to stay at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa, in Hyannis, with my youngest.  After looking at the website and seeing the hotel has a water park, she could hardly stop talking about it.  The hotel did not disappoint and we had a fabulous time playing throughout our stay.  The hotel is located near several beautiful Cape Cod beaches, and near many restaurants and adorable shop.

Lake Opechee Inn and Spa

My kids are so fun to travel with, but every once in a while, it’s nice to be alone to relax.  Since the end of the school year is full of obligations, I thought this would be a great time to rejuvenate before the final stretch of school, and the Lake Opechee Inn and Spa was the perfect place to go.  I couldn’t have imagined how relaxed I would feel when I left.

10 Tips for Staying in Hotels with Kids

Staying in a hotel can be a really fun experience, however when traveling with kids it can also get a bit tricky.  I put a lot more thought into travel when my kids are with me because I know they require some extra thought.  Here are 10 tips for staying in a hotel with kids:

Port Inn, Portsmouth, NH

The Port Inn, Portsmouth, NH

Portsmouth, New Hampshire is one of my favorite coastal towns in New England.  The town is dear to my heart because we had our wedding reception in town and since then have created many family memories here. Portsmouth is only an hour north of Boston and just over the bridge from Maine.

When looking for a hotel in Portsmouth, location is key.  The Port Inn is centrally located and has amazing accommodations for the entire family.  Please click below to read all about our stay at the Port Inn.

Rhumb Line Resort, Kennebunkport, Maine

If you are looking for fun, affordable accommodations when visiting Kennebunkport, Maine, The Rhumb Line Resort may be just what you need.  The Rhumb Line Resort is located one mile from downtown Kennebunkport and one mile from Walker’s Point.  It is an easy drive if you are venturing out and it is on the trolley route, which is a fun way to get to town. It is located close to beautiful Maine beaches, shopping areas, and lots of amazing restaurants.   The wooded area around the resort makes for a quiet atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxation.

Nonantum Resort, Kennebunkport, Maine

Nonantum Resort

The Nonantum Resort is one of the most beautiful resorts in Maine and I can’t say enough about how attentive and kind the staff is.  Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend, a relaxing getaway, or a fun-filled family adventure, this is the resort to look at.  It is located in the quaint seaside village of Kennebunkport, Maine and it resides on the banks of the Kennebunk River. The location is perfect for exploring the town and there are ample restaurants, shops, and art galleries nearby. (Not to mention some pretty amazing ice cream shops.)

Hilton Mystic- Mystic, CT

Hilton Mystic, CT

As soon as we walked into the Hilton Mystic we felt the nautical atmosphere all around us.  From the port hole mirrors to the water cascading down the panels of the walls, there’s no mistaking the charm of maritime New England.  When we checked in we were given a choice to what floor we wanted to stay on.  When we said we had no preference they suggested if we were planning on using the pool we could stay in that wing.  We ended up loving that location because there is nothing worse than riding up in a cold elevator after swimming.

Liberty Hotel, Boston…Don’t Bail Me Out

Liberty Hotel... Don't Bail Me Out! Boston

Who would have guessed that prison could be so romantic?  If you stay at only one hotel in Boston it has to be The Liberty Hotel.  It is such a unique experience with spacious rooms and 5 restaurants/bars.  This hotel stands where the Charles Street Jail once stood and they have played on that to give you a taste of Boston’s history.
