Maple Express at Charmingfare Farms

When you think of March in New Hampshire, the first thing that comes to mind is maple syrup!!  In fact, the New Hampshire maple industry produces close to 90,000 gallons of maple syrup annually.  However, this phenomenon of Mother Nature is dictated by weather, not calendar.  It is the freezing nights and warm days that make sap flow, so it can begin in late February and run into early April.  The magic is that no one can predict what the season will bring.  Charmingfare Farms, in Candia, NH, offers a fun way for your family to experience sugaring on a working farm.  This farm has been a favorite spot for my family since our kids were young, but we had never done the Maple Express.  It was such a pleasant way to spend the afternoon and I would strongly recommend taking this tour.  Let me show you how we spent our day.

Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk- Boston

mytravelingkids.com

(In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month…)

When I was 5 and my brother 7, we lost our mother to ovarian cancer.  That changed my life forever.  Three years ago my daughters were just about to turn 5 and 7 and I knew I had to contribute some way to raising awareness about cancer (all cancers) and help with fundraising for research.  When I decided to do the Susan G Komen 3 -Day walk in Boston I never knew how much it would change me.

Castle in the Clouds

cast1

New Hampshire has many special places to view the colorful change of foliage.  At Castle in the Clouds, in Moultonborough, you will be transported back to the early 1900’s to the home of Thomas Plant.  However, do not rush straight up to the castle, take your time and make a few stops along the way.

What is the first stop? Well…

Maine Wildlife Park

Maine Wildlife Park

Maine Wildlife Park mytravelingkids.com

This August my girls and I went on a girls’ getaway trip to Freeport, Maine. Since the three of us are animal lovers, we decided to drive a half hour away to Gray, Maine to visit the Maine Wildlife Park.  It ended up being one of the most memorable days of the summer thanks to the hospitality of their staff.  We were able to first enjoy the park on our own and were then given a behind-the-scenes tour to get up close to some of our favorite animals.  Little did we know how close.

Girls On the Run…The Finish Line is Just the Beginning

gor8

I’m always looking for fun ways to keep my girls active.  Last year my 9-year-old participated in an amazing program called Girls On the Run, a countrywide program that begins with girls in 3rd grade.  It was one of the most fun activities my daughter has been a part of.  It takes Girl Power to a whole new level!

Learning to Ski at 40

ski

This morning I jumped from an airplane, landed on the top of a snowcapped mountain, and skied down a black diamond trail.  Well…ok…not exactly.  I actually just went up the Magic Carpet and came back down a few times but I can tell you it was just as scary!  I am 40 years old (Ugh…that can’t be right) and I am just learning how to ski.

Want a Winter Adventure? Muddy Paw Dog Sledding

Dog sledding at Muddy Paw in Jefferson NH

One of my Travel Bucket List activities was dog sledding but I always thought I’d have to go to Alaska for the experience.  That’s when I discovered Muddy Paw.  Located in Jefferson, NH, this amazing experience will make you want to sign up for the Iditarod.  Ok…that may be pushing it… but you will definitely fall in love with sled dogs and be in awe at how intelligent, hardworking, and snuggly they can be. There was not one dog that was not friendly.  My girls still talk about Blue and Jack!

Get Messy! 10 Tips for the Color Run

10 Tips for a fun Color Run for the whole family.

If you see me running around your neighborhood, I’d like you to call the police because there’s a good chance someone is chasing me.  I am not a runner.  I envy people that actually have the ability to lace up their sneakers, throw their headphones on and go for a leisure 5 mile run. I’m getting shin splints just thinking about it!  My 8-year-old daughter does an amazing program called Girls on the Run, that teaches them about self-confidence and girl power while training them for a 5K.    At the end they complete the 5K with an adult and she chose me to run it with her.  After that first run she said, “I think we should do the Color Run…you know…since we’re runners now!”  Hahaha…yep…runner…that’s me.  So on a rainy cold day in the summer of 2015 we laced up our sneakers and had the absolute best time doing this run.  Here are 10 tips about this amazing race:
