Freeport, Maine: Day 1
One of my favorite destinations in Maine is the coastal town of Freeport. It oozes New England charm and has everything I could want in a vacation…the ocean, restaurants, boutiques, farms, and lots of outdoor activities. This itinerary can easily be used for a family trip, girls’ weekend, or a romantic escape.
Check into Your Hotel
When staying in Freeport, there is only one place I stay…The Harraseeket Inn. It has cozy rooms, a delicious on-site restaurant, and is the perfect location to call your home. However, what keeps me coming back to the inn is the staff. They are attentive without being invasive and they welcome you to the inn like it is their home. Drop your bags in your room and take a quick peek around the inn.

Grab Some Coffee
Time to explore Freeport, but first get something warm to drink. My favorite coffee house in Freeport is ZesTea. You’ve got to try their Madagascar Chai Latte. It has the delicious taste of and vanilla bean and exotic spices.

Time to Get Outdoors
There is so much to do around Freeport, and it’s time to spend the morning outdoors. Your first stop is the Wolfe Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment. Wolfe Neck is a nonprofit farm with 626 oceanfront acres and 4 miles of Casco Bay shoreline that is open to the public every day. Bring your bike and have a lovely coastal ride. The ride in the camp site area is lovely as the trees form a canopy above you.
Your kids will love stopping in the barn to say hello to all the adorable farm animals.

Time for Lunch in Freeport!
The Freeport Town Wharf, in South Freeport, is approximately 3 miles from downtown and it is a working wharf. It’s fun to watch the lobstermen loading their boats, see small fishing boats heading out to sea, and daydream about what it would be like to own one of the many sailboats docked or moored at the harbor. Head down to the wharf to eat at the Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster Company. Try their Seafood Basket or their Fish Chowder.

Get Out on the Water of Freeport
Since you’re already down at the harbor, it’s time to take a Lobster Boat Tour with Seacoast Tours of Freeport.
We loved taking this tour a few years back. First, we learned to pull the traps.
We also learned how to put bait in the trap (pogy) and how to set them back into the water.
You’ll also be able to sneak some education into your trip…don’t tell the kids. Captain Pete and Laura explained the anatomy of the lobster, what they eat, and their life cycle. One of our favorite parts of the morning was seeing all the adorable seals hanging out on the rocks sunning themselves. There were tons of them!
They now do an oyster farm tour that I’m dying to try out this summer!
Ice Cream Time!
When you get back to town, head to Ben & Jerry’s for a sweet treat.

What’s for Dinner?
The restaurant at the inn, Broad Arrow Tavern, has a beautiful patio for outdoor dining.
If you want a cocktail, try the Pearl Pomegranate Cosmopolitan. The patio is so peaceful. It has a water fountain and there is a crackling bonfire that gives it a nice ambiance. The night I ate dinner there they had the most amazing Tuna Tartar.
Take a peek at their menu.
Head back to your cozy room and enjoy the rest of your night.
