What a relaxing month of self-care.  Spring is in the air and it’s the perfect time to start new habits of taking time each week to pamper yourself. Find some inspiration in our March Self-Care Roundup.

Week 9

Pamper Your Lips

Living in New England during winter can wreak havoc on your lips so this week let’s give them some love.  A little bit of pampering and you’ll be puckering up again.

First step is to give them a good scrub. My favorite lip scrub right now is Kiss My Grits, praline lip scrub. Made by Salacia, this scrub instantly changes the feel of your lips. It smells incredible! It is made of  Georgia stone ground white corn grits, organic sugar, organic coconut oil, pecan oil, Atlantic sea salt and vitamin E to make your lips more kissable. The scrubs come in a variety of fun flavors like Peach, Margarita, Mint Julep, Coconut Cream Pie, Praline, Blueberry, Key Lime Pie.

Next, follow up your lip pampering with a great lip balm. I have been alternating with these two amazing balms. The first is New England Apothecary Lip Conditioner. These silky lip balms bring the moisture right back into your lips with cocoa butter and coconut oil. They smell incredible and are perfect for every-day wear.

Another favorite is Vanilla Lips, from Oshadhi. This high quality balm protects and cares for lips with infused vanilla beans and golden calendula blossoms. It also contains coconut and jojoba oils, with cocoa butter and shea butter. It sinks into your skin and you’ll immediately see a change.

Week 10

Fika

Okay…you may be wondering what in the world is fika? Fika is a Swedish term that means making time for friends and family to share a cup of coffee (or tea) and a little something to eat. Fika is a state of mind that is an important part of Swedish culture. Many Swedes consider that it is almost essential to make time for fika every day. It is like a coffee break, but one where you are present, and focused on the person you’re with (or alone). My girls and I had so much fun at Chococoa Baking Company in Newburyport, MA, having lattes and their famous whoopie pies.

You don’t have to go out to enjoy fika since you can create it right in your own home.  I have a cup of tea or a latte every afternoon.  It helps me ground myself for the second half of my day. Here is a matcha latte recipe I use:

1 teaspoon matcha powder (This one is my favorite.)

1 tablespoon hot water

2 teaspoons honey

1 cup hot milk (I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk)
Cinnamon or Pumpkin Pie Spice (optional)

1- Sift the matcha powder into a mug.

2- Add the hot water and whisk until no lumps remain.

3- Stir in the honey.

4- Add the milk and either whisk to combine or use a milk frother.

5- Sprinkle with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.

Here are some tools to help you enjoy fika:

Pedicures

I love getting a good pedicure. It is the perfect way to relax and end up with pretty toes. Now that spring is around the corner, it’s almost time for flip flops. So get those toes picture ready! If you don’t feel like going to a salon, a pedicure is a simple thing to do at home.

The website GellyDrops has the best selection of  gel nail wraps. Look at their great selection for pedicures: One of my favorite products is My Canvas, from ohora.

These beautiful ombre white nails will make your toes pop! They are so easy to apply.  Simply wipe, stick, cut, file, and put under the lamp. An easy pedicure in record time.

DIY Manicures like a Pro

I love to do my own nails.  It’s inexpensive and there are so many great kits out there that can help you get the perfect manicure.  Here are some kits I’ve loved using:

Press-on nails are not what the used to be.  The quality of these nails makes it easy to change up your style depending on your mood. Nail Reformation makes the best press-on nails I’ve ever used.  They come in many colors, styles, and lengths so there’s something for everyone. I had so much fun using this classic set..  Peachy French.

And my daughter rocked these. Candy Claws.

We also got Pretty In Pastel (my daughter claimed these) and Cold Brew Heart  (for myself)

We can’t wait to try them out!

I also decided to do some nail wraps from GellyDrops.  This is a great kit to bring on trips and it’s so easy to use.  You simple prep, stick, file, set, and you’re left with a perfect manicure. It will be so hard to pick the ones you want because there are so many styles and brands to choose from. One of my favorite things about nail wraps is you can mix and match them, do a full set, or just use one or two for accent nails when using regular nail polish.

This one from Zinipin was my favorite. The style is Stone Gray.

My daughter used Seasonless Tartan Check, by Edgeu, but since they give you 32 wraps, I will use the extra ones as accent nails. These colors will go with so many nail polishes I already have.

I love how sparkly Romantic Flower, by Jellymix, is. I’m saving these for a special occasion. The natural darker nude shades in this mani are stunning. Romantic white cherry blossom, a blend of gold toned glitters and little accents are why this mani looks classy no matter what you are doing.

I love how classic the colors in Naive, by Ohora, is.  These are my next set I’m doing and I think I’ll do a full set. The brown, cream, and tan tones will go well with anything you’re wearing.

Finally, I got to sample this fun gel nail kit. It is called Milkshake by le mini macaron This is the perfect gel kit to throw in your carry-on when you head out on your next trip. They have a wide variety of colors and they are simple to use. White is my go-to color and this one was beautiful.  The kit gives you everything to give yourself (or someone else) a great manicure. Mt daughter used this one as well and we were both surprised by how long it stayed on.

Since everyone will be looking at those fabulous nails, you’ve got to moisturize the skin on your hands too. This one is my favorite… Magic Hand Cream by New England Apothecary. It is fast-absorbing, non-greasy, with loads of super hydrating ingredients. Cashmere smells incredible!

There are a few other items you’ll want for your DIY manicure.  First, you’ll need to give your hands a good wash.  I love Wash, Wash, Wash, by Essential 3. It gets your skin squeaky clean without drying your skin.
