New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill
New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, located in the heart of New England, beckons travelers with its diverse collection of plants, meticulously curated gardens, and immersive experiences. From vibrant floral displays to tranquil woodland trails, it offers a sanctuary for both avid plant enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. If you think botanic gardens are only good during warm months, let me show you how lovely a visit can be during winter.
The New England Botanic Garden is 200 acres and has 18 distinct gardens.
There’s nothing I like more than seeing fresh flowers during winter. I try to keep a vase of flowers in my kitchen every week so I can enjoy their color and scent. The conservatory was a plant/flower haven and we loved seeing so many in bloom.
Is Winter a Good Time to Visit?
A visit to the Garden offers opportunities to slow down by simply taking notice of the natural wonders of the winter world around you—animal tracks in snow, the sense of solitude found under towering pines, the chatter of birds foraging for seed among thickets of frosted vegetation. Grab your boots or your snow shoes, bring the dog, and get exploring!
THE ORANGERIE
Sneak peek at Patterns in Bloom, an Orchid Exhibit
Patterns in Bloom, An Orchid Exhibit showcases displays of thousands of living orchids in their annual exhibit. Although the orchids weren’t there yet when we visited, we were able to get a sneak peek at imaginative sculptural work of artist Molly Gambardella looming above us in the conservatory.
Opening weekend is February 10 and will run through March 17.
PLINY’S ALLÉE
Pliny’s Allée is a regal row of oak trees that is the starting pint of a lovely walk in the woods.
This adorable guy greets you.
THE RAMBLE
The entire family will love this section of the garden. In warmer months, t is beautifully landscaped, with hundreds of perennials, shrubs, and trees and featuring a brook, a pond, and a waterfall.
This area is designed to spark the imagination.
Who wouldn’t like to play in this area? Who are you going to pretend to be today? An explorer, a pirate, a mermaid… the choices are endless.
