Little Sous: Cooking Subscription Box

My girls have been in the kitchen with me since they were young, and they love to help create delicious meals.  During social isolation, they have been loving cooking and we are always looking for new recipes.  We were so excited to get our box from Little Sous Kitchen Academy, a cooking subscription box for kids.  We couldn’t wait to get into the kitchen.

What do I love about Little Sous Kitchen Academy?

I love that this box encourages kids to be curious about cooking and teaches them a life skill.  When cooking together it’s the perfect time to talk about healthy eating habits and nutrition.  It also helps them broaden their palate, so it’s great for picky eaters.

What comes in each box?

Step-by-step cooking lesson with kid-friendly recipes

Activity cards

Ready-to-color poster filled with games and puzzles

Fun stickers

High-quality cooking tool or a non-perishable ingredient

The box has a classy look but the quote “Messes will be made,” reminds you that it is for kids.

What did we get in our cooking subscription box?

Every box has a theme and ours was

THE EGGCELLENT ADVENTURE

What recipes did we get?

CLASSIC EGGS BENEDICT

Eggs Benedict is one of my guilty pleasures, and I often order it when on vacation because everyone knows that calories don’t count on vacation…lol. I’ve tried making poached eggs for years and I could never do it.  Turns out I’ve been over boiling the water all this time.  I love that my daughter and I learned a new skill.

DEVILED EGGS

These were so yummy for an afternoon snack!

FRITTATA MUFFINS

I love the versatility of this recipe because everyone was able to put in whatever ingredients they wanted. We made some with ham, bacon, and vegetables.  It was the perfect breakfast!

PAVLOVA CLOUDS

Our family is all about dessert these days, so we couldn’t wait to test these out.  My 13-year-old made these all by herself and she did a fabulous job.  It was so sweet and we each put on the fruit that we wanted.  She did such a great job and we all devoured them!

There were also some very informative cards about cooking.

One that I will use in the future tells how long to boil eggs to make them from soft boiled to hard boiled.

They also included a recipe to make your own flavored mayonnaise.

I also like how they give you a shopping list that you can just throw in your purse.

Since the kitchen is the perfect place to get some education in, I love that this cooking subdcription box includes a large world map listing egg dishes from around the world.  Kids can be intrigued by a certain dish and you can google the recipe and create it as a family.  This map had dishes like Huevos Rancheros, from Mexico, tortilla de patatas, from Spain, and Egg Bhurji, from India. It would be fun to try to make all the dishes on the map.

On the back of the map they give a fun activity kit with crossword puzzles, a word-find, a coloring page, and jokes.  This would be perfect to entertain kids while you’re waiting on food to cook.

They even gave some fun egg themed stickers.

Did we get a cooking tool?

Yes!  We got this fun mini whisk.  It is really good quality and the silicone handle has a great grip.

What is the cost of the subscription box?

Monthly subscription: $24.99

3-Month subscription: $71.22

6-Month subscription: $140.94

12-Month subscription: $275.88 (plus you get a bonus Opinel Le Petit Chef Set that is valued at $50)
