Salty Owl Studio Review

As horrible as this pandemic has been, we have been trying to stay positive, count our blessings, and appreciate our health and our family. One thing that we’ve appreciated is all the extra time as a family and are always looking for fun things we can do together to make memories.  Salty Owl Studio has developed the perfect way to have all the fun of family night, with someone else doing all the planning for you! Owl Box was created to make it easier for families to spend time together.

What comes in each box?

Each box comes with a project (with materials for 4 or 5 participants ages 9 and up), snacks, a game, recipe and a movie suggestion.

What did we get?

We received the Welcome Box!

One of the household items we have appreciated the most during this pandemic (besides toilet paper, of course) is SOAP!  We go through it like crazy so this was a fun craft for us to do together.

The soap making kit had everything we needed including…

Soap molds, craft sticks

Goat’s milk soap base, soap dye, scent, and even a natural loofah that we cut and put into our soap.

One of the best things about craft subscription boxes is they spark your imagination and allow you to take it to another level.  After seeing all the soap making items in the box, my daughter remembered we had some glycerin soap and molds in the basement, so we decided to create even more soaps.

With our kit we made several soaps that had loofah sponges in them.

It was fun dying it to the color we wanted and adding essential oils.

My kitchen smelled SO GOOD when we were done.

We even got a little creative by making a 3-layer bar that we cut into 6 pieces.

Afterwards we made some other soaps where we added rose petals, and played around with essential oils to create our own blends.

The box also encourages games to get a bit more family time in.

We got the game Bloom and we played it out on the dock one afternoon.

We were given an amazing recipe for French Toast Cinnamon Roll Sticks.  This looks like such a fun recipe for us to make together and we can’t wait to make it this Sunday.

Finally, we were given a Movie Pick to watch together for a family movie night…The Secret of Kells. One of my girls had actually watched it already so we chose another movie to watch.  We watched Iron Man since we have been watching all of the Marvel movies in chronological order.

And what would a movie night be without SNACKS? Look at some of the yummy treats they gave us!

What is the cost of the subscription box?

It costs about $13 per person.  That is cheaper than a movie theater or a ‘make and take’ art studio, etc, and you get to keep the art supplies, plus all the other goodies!

They also offer individual boxes from past months at my website (saltyowlstudio.com, doubles as her Etsy shop) and month to month options on CrateJoy! (https://www.cratejoy.com/subscription-box/the-salty-owl-studio)
